As a former S2000 owner who tracked it, the IS would slaughter the S2000 on the straits as I did by more powerful cars. The S2000 of course made up for it in the corners. You must remember that the S2000 has no grunt and when its raced from a start (say 5 to 60).. its extreemly slow. But damn, on the corners, you could make up huge time.

This is me vs my friend in his Porsche at the start. I would get in his way on the straits and he would get in my way on the corners. This guy knows how to race to... he actually raced Bikes on the track also.

Nice! Were you running the extended track or the 1.2 mile circuit? In other words didn't they add to the Streets Track making it about 2 miles. If you were running the short circuit, what kind of time? Whoever brought up autocrossing, this track is not an autocross track. You will be hitting close to 100mph on the back straight IMO. I haven't driven there for years but it was a fun little track.

I figured that was the reason. You were driving plenty hard, you just knew what you were doing. Awesome pics man.

Two things come to mind about VDIM not interfering with you...

1) I remember something about the car mags complaining that VDIM wouldn't allow them to go more than "8 tenths" on the track, and I'm sure the drivers had more than 3 years driving experience (especially considering that 3 years autocross experience isn't very much seat time).

2) I'm surprised that VDIM wouldn't have been even less tolerant considering the upgraded suspension and tires. Wouldn't VDIM kick in way earlier in anticipation of slippage? The VDIM computer doesn't know that the tires are WAY stickier than stock...

Anyway, that is VERY impressive that the OEM brake pads could handle the track on Hoosiers.

Sweet pics, i've been toying with the idea of going to a track like that someday...

As for the S2000+ debate is concerened. A single S2k putting down 240rwhp on a queastionable dyno does not make all 2004+ S2K's 240rwhp cars. Fact of the matter is that they put down significanly less power (any year) than an IS350. They definatly have us beat in the turns and road feel however.

The fact of the matter is that the IS350 weighs 700+ pounds more than the S2000, which negates any difference in power.

The S2000 puts down significantly more power than the Elise. Does that mean that the S2000 is faster?

I'm not an expert on VDIM (nor do I play one on TV) but I believe it kicks in only when it detects or anticipates slippage/rotation. As long as your smooth and not abrupt, I think it gives you a lot of freedom. I've gotten slight 4 wheel drifts without it beeping or kicking in.
The IS gets a bad rep from the 'VDIM kicking in too early' from the car rags doing their slalom runs, which are nothing but sudden and abrupt.

Agree with ff. It's the power to weight ratio that determines speed.

That's what I was thinking too. I don't know how the sensors work exactly, but it seems like they wouldn't signal mechanical interaction until actual slippage was detected. If the sensors were set to "fire" only at a certain point (at .8 G's lateral, for example), the results of the stability control logic would be unpredictable. SC probably wouldn't activate at all if you were sliding on ice or gravel. I think what it watches for is sudden and abnormal changes in lateral forces, regardless of where you're at with respect to lateral G's. I'll bet it's a pretty finely-tuned and sensitive instrument.
