Escort8500 hardwire...(already searched)
I just bought an Escort 8500 and I love it. I know most of you here use the V1 and I'm not knocking it, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that kinda money on it. Anyways, onto my question...
I want to hardwire it up near the rear view mirror but it seems like there is no good place to mount it. I am wondering what others are doing to overcome this problem?! You can't mount it inbetween the roof and the mirror (not enough space) and you can't mount it to either side because of the visors. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have the Escort model but a V1 but it might still apply.
I hardwired mine directly to the rear view mirror power and ground leads and the V1 sits on the passenger side of the window. If the passenger side sun-shade visor comes down it does block the V1 path but that seemed like the best place for it. Like you noticed there isn't enough room above the rear view, and having it right above my head below my sun visor doesn't work for me. I just tell my passengers to wear sunglasses if i'm speeding

I mount all my Escorts on the far left side of the dashboard, and I've had no reception problems. I know it's best to mount a detector up higher, but I'm getting alerts miles away from radar sources so I'm happy.
As a bonus, it's easy to reach to mute it (assuming you don't use the remote), and it's also easy to tuck the wires in behind the trim pieces. The fusebox is below the driver's side, too, so power is nearby.
