Talking OEM IS250/350 Roof Rack Update?

Hey, I saw an earlier post about roof racks. Was anyone in the U.S. able to purchase the OEM ones? I was able to contact the Edmonton Lexus dealer but he was pretty unfriendly and not helpful at all getting it to the U.S. I've also contacted lexus-parts.com but they have yet to respond.

Has anyone instead purchased an aftermarket one from Thule or Yakima? Snowboard season is approaching and it'll be time to get my racks.

I'd go with either Thule or Yakima over the OEM roof rack simply because they specialize in designing racks. I have a Thule rack with bike and snowboard attachments for my 3GS and it's extremely sturdy and very easy to put on/remove.

You obviously never had a roof rack. I've had roof racks for all my 4 different cars including my GS. None of them scratched the paint or sheetmetal. Now if you overload them, thats a different story. btw I used Thule.

this is a noob question... but how does a roof rack mount to the roof of the car? I was on the Yakima site but looking up stuff for my civic only because i didn't know how the mount on and was thinking it would ruin the roof my IS

Thanks! I've been seeing a lot of people with severely scratched and dented cars (where the roof racks mount) lately and I was scared, but this puts me at ease BIG TIME. I just bought a new road bike, so I've been noticing which racks people have on their cars. I'm glad I'm not going to have to sacrifice my IS to transport my bike!
