Well its how you negotiate with the dealer. MSRP is like35-36k. Guess you pay over MSRP and got nothing. If you trade it back you lose 3-5k just like that.

If you trade it in, you will be burned. I see that 06's in CA go for invoice. Which means you will get 3-4K less than that on a used one. If you paid full price at 40K... then you paid 4K over invoice. So you lose that, and another 3K. Total 7K loss+Tax.

In CA, the tax is what 8%... so you spent 37K for a base IS with 18" wheels+ Perferred acc package? WHich is about right, if you paid Full MSRP.

When did you buy your IS? If you bought it recently, then you should have negotiated a better deal.

we need to clear some things up here:
1. what was the MSRP on the car?
2. did the $40K you paid include TT&L (IE was that the out the door price?)

So what exactly does OTD mean?

I was under the impression it meant everything including Tax Tags + registration..... but I have seen several people use it differently(to mean the price of the vehicle excluding tags tax and reg)

Just trying to make sure that we were comparing apples to apples.

After he gets the MSRP figure and what he paid/financed in total, we can see if there was some major screwage or not.
