IS250 vs IS300
I always wondered if my IS250 would be able to keep up with a IS300. My bro has a IS300 and he wanted to race after my break in period. I Drove his car before and i can tell a little difference being that his car is a little faster that mines.
anyways both of our cars is stock.
did anyone raced a IS300 yet with there 250?
btw both are auto trans.

Couple of factors, is your IS a manual ? Is his IS300 an auto ?
The IS300 is lighter, has more HP & torque, so on paper, the IS300 will take you off the line, to 60 and in the 1/4 . . .

Everything else being equal, I think the IS300 should walk away form an IS250. If both are auto, you do have one advantage in that you have a 6 speed gearbox, however I don't think that advantage alone is going to be enough to overcome the power to weight ratio he has on you.
It should be close enough however that a slight error on his part could give you the win, so practice your launches and then accept his challenge.

before you race him don't forget to turn the TRC off and turn on the PWD ECT that could make huge difference for the IS250!! Good Luck and let us know the result of the race...

I'd venture to say the IS300 is about equal to the IS250 in terms of horsepower alone.
Horsepower ratings have changed since the IS300 debuted with 215 horses.
The TL debuted with 270 horsepower in '04 under the old hp standards. Under the SAE standards, the TL is down to 258.

Yup, this is very true, and under the old HP ratings, if I am not mistaken, the 250 would have been rated somewhere between 220 and 225HP, so this race might be a lot closer than some of the others have suggested.

im not sure when exactly it changed, but from what i have heard, it was either this year or last, when exactly i am not sure, and it was, from what i understand, standardized by the government in order to regulate ridiculously outrageous and unattainable HP ratings claimed by some car makers. I am in no way 100% on this, and may be a tad off on some of the details, but this was how it was explained to me, and by more than 1 person.

Beginning in 2005 for the '06 MY, US govt requires SAE adjusted HP ratings for new cars. The Big 3 already uses the new SAE standards so this switch mainly affected the Japanese brands. For instance the '05 Mdx was rated at 265 hp, for '06 the identical engine is rated at 253. Prior to '05 HP seemed to be rounded to the nearest 5, with '06 it seems that there are more precise HP figures (ie '05 IS300 = 215, '06 IS250 = 204)

No, what he's saying is that the IS250's rating of 204hp is calculated using the new rating system and the IS300's HP rating is calculated using the old rating system.
If the 300 was using the new rating system, it's power output would be much closer to the 204hp that the IS250 is rated at. It is important to note however that not ALL cars lost power when converting to the new rating system. Many gained power. Kind of sad but it seems that Toyota and Honda were effected worse than most other manufacturers by going to the new system. Makes it seem like they've been over-rating their vehicles for all these years.
