Default VDIM question

Lexus web site says VDIM is used to control control loss form car sliding. So if it doesn't "kick in" on a straight away run (drag race) what is to be gained with turning it off with the foot dance? Wouldn't turning off the traction control be all that is needed for drag racing?

Larry

Turning off VDIM you can start drifting, do donuts and all that fun stuff. Maybe a victory dance after the drag. =P

So back to the same question, for a drag race wouldn't turning off the traction control be sufficient?

No - the VSC and TRAC (which is really what the original poster was referring to instead of VDIM) WILL kick in on a straight-away. I've had this happen to me several times. If you drive the car normally (with TRAC and VSC enabled) and then drive after doing the pedal dance, you'll feel quite a difference - even in straight-aways. The next time you drive the car normally, you'll really be able to feel the ECU backing off the throttle in some instances and actually applying brake force in others. Try it out, and you'll see! So for drag-racing type situations, I would do the pedal dance.

Try it. I haven't. I did the pedal dance because I didn't want any interference at all. It might be OK, and it might not.

Shouldnt make such a big difference..
but i feel like the throttle response and other things got better...
might just be my opinion.

seriously, go out and try it on some back street. even on a straight away, giving your car some gas (you dont even need full throttle) will cause the tires to squeak a bit. this is especially true on roads that arent perfectly smooth. for extra fun, do it in the rain =D

If I'm not mistaken, VDIM encompasses all of the car's electronic nannies including VSC, TRAC, etc. so yes it probably would be a benefit having it off.

What bugs me about the traction control disable switch is that it reenables itself every time you go over 30 MPH. If you disable TRAC and VSC with the pedal dance, it stays off until you turn the car off.

There is no known way to completely disable VDIM, though.
