I don't take any of my cars to the dealer for scheduled maintenance. I do everything myself.

I get my parts at cost, so around $100 for everything required for my 1year/15k maintenance.

So you change your oil at 15k miles?? Not 5k? Oh and I like how many posts you have...

I'm all for saving a few bucks and doing your own maintenance, but can't 15k oil changes void your warranty if, say, your engine blows?

It's not for saving money, it's for saving time, and because I am lazy... and I also think it's useless to change oil more frequently than once per year...

As far as warranty, the engine will not blow... There's almost zero chance of that... And if it does, they will replace the engine under warranty because I will make them... Besides, there is nothing that says you can't change your own oil... And there is nothing that says if you can't document service that your warranty is void...

Anyway, it's moot as the engine will not blow... Maybe at 200+ thousand miles, but so can any engine, and I won't own the car by then...

I've owned dozens of cars, engine has never blown on a single one (except the E46 M3 and that was before the first scheduled oil change and was an acknowledged defect by BMW). Hell, I've run a Honda Accord 25k miles a year between oil changes and the car ran past 200k miles with no problems... For all I know it's still going strong...

If you do your own maintence how do you get rid of the maintence light on the dash? Just unplug the battery and then put it back on after a few minutes?

It's in the owner's manual. And also in the FAQ sticky on this forum.

Can't say that I agree w/ your OCI, but it's your car and your dime. But you have piqued my curiosity - would you be willing to do an UOA on your oil after the 1st change and post the results on this site. I'm curious to see what the analysis would say about your OCI . . .

Hmmmm, you know what, normally I would never waste time/money doing something like that, but I will do it because I think it will benefit the forum here... And because I think Lexus is shafting the average consumer by making the maintenance interval artificially short at 5k miles.

Send me a URL on where to order the kit from and I'll do it next time I change my oil... (Gonna be 12+ months though)
