This is my '07 Obsidian I got last Saturday (9/2/06). I already put the pics in the welcome/roll call thread.
Not really sure how different it is supposed to be from '06 black

It is not metallic. I ordered one a couple of weeks ago and looked at a rather large paint sample. I was hoping that the "new" black sapphire was going to be a metallic black like the BMW. No dice. It's blue. The Obsidian is supposed to be a blacker black due to a slightly different painting process. I doubt you will really be able to see much if any difference between 07 and 06.

while we are on the subject of black, a true 100% hasnt been able to be created. A while back I heard some new ink that was 97% was developed where it beat the previous black % of 96%. Something along those lines, even 1% towards true black helps a lot even if the naked eye cant tell. Supposedly some scientific experiments need the utmost blackest black you can find, thats why its such a big deal to move up a notch towards true black

I went in last Saturday expecting to order a 2007 in obsidian or the new black sapphire (blue), but they already had one 2007 black on the lot with exactly what I was looking for, so I leased it the same day. Also got a good deal at $1500 over invoice. Still, the best part was having no wait 
As for the color, I looked to see if it was metallic, but I really have nothing to compare it to. As golfproatl said, it really is more of a deep black which I actually like. I tried to take some close-up pictures but all they show are the fine swirl marks on the car (which are barely noticeable to me).
