Default 5000 mile maintenance

so i'm due for my complimentary 5000 miles maintenance. all this time i thought i would be getting a loaner while my car was in for the servicing but am now told loaner cars aren't available for the complimentary maintenance because it'll only take 1 1/2 hours or so. i don't have time to sit around for 1 1/2 hours at a dealer. i also read that other people were able to get loaners for their first complimentary loaner? anybody know which socal dealer will offer a loaner for the first comped service?

you are not forced to wait around for your car you can leave if you want. i think the dealership also needs to go over the personalization stuff if requested.

Wow.. they need 1.5 hours for an oil change and "inspection"???

Thats a bit crazy, but i guess when the dealership has corporate paying for it, there is no real rush to get the car finished in under an hour..

Its just an oil change.................

oh i know i can leave the dealership but i can't get very far without some form of transportation. i already had my lps settings done too. i just want them to do the oil change and inspection and take a look at my squeaking front brakes. i guess i'm just sorta irked that this whole time i thought i would get a loaner and also hearing stories of other people getting loaners for their first 5000 mile service. maybe i shoulda made a poll to see who did and didn't get loaners for their first 5000 service.

haven't heard of loaner cars just for a service being done unless the car has problems under warranty.. usually they would just ask if you have someone to pick you up, wait for the car, or have the shuttle van take you to where you want to go...

The loaner I was given while my car was in for it's 5000 mile check-up was a new RX???. (sorry can't remember the #'s) Maybe it just depends on how nice the dealership is.

I got IS350 loaner from Newport Lexus, Best Customer Service Ever. I have owned several lexus for more than 5 years, I never got service as good as Newport Lexus provides. The worst is LONGO LEXUS, which I never go back there anymore. Actually I live about 8 miles away from Longo, but I rather drive down to Newport to have my car service, as long as I am happy customer.

hmmm... so it looks like people ARE getting loaners for their 5000 mile comped service. maybe i need to speak to someone else at the dealer or go somewhere else along with my future business.

I got a RX400 for a loaner when I had my polyshield put on at Newport Lexus. I was told I could get a loaner for any type of service there.

Since my office is about a half mile from the Lexus dealership, I did not ask for a loaner on my 5000 complimentary service. I was going to use their shuttle van. However, when I brought it in, the SA said he had an extra loaner and I could have it if I wanted it. I took it just for grins.

What you are experiencing is likely just a dealership policy. They probably do not keep a large fleet of loaners, so they assign them to people who are having more extensive service. The Infiniti dealer I worked with before I got the IS250 was that way -- basically the dealership was cheap and didn't want to pay for maintaining an adequate amount of loaners to meet the demand. This was one of the reasons I switched to Lexus.

If you made an appointment for the service, I would speak with the service manager and explain to him that you'd like a loaner regardless of their policy. If they refuse your request, simply take your business elsewhere.

Is it that you don't have 1 1/2 hours to wait, or that you don't want to wait 1 1/2 hours?

Go for a walk around the neighborhood. Wander around the lot and look at cars. Test drive something. Whatever. Not that big of a deal, and not worth creating a big stink over, unless you want the service department to put you on their "watch out for this jerk" list.

At the dealership I work for, you get a courtesy car no matter what is being done or how long. My own experience is that whe you take into account the time to travel to and from twice, I can usually wait for a routine service and be better off, time wise. We do request that you make an appointment to be sure we have enough cars to loan.
