I tried...dealer said no
Tried to price a an 07 is350.
I asked for a Matadoor red 07 IS350 with Lux,nav,ml,18" black leather.
I recieved:
Hi James,
The Luxuery and nav / levinson pkg make the MSRP $45052. the internet price will be $43800 Let me know what color choices you have. And I'll get to work on finding it.....
Sincerely,
Tony Duncan

I rebutted with:
Mr. Duncan,
Thankyou for your quick reply. I am in the market to buy an IS350 very soon. However I have done my research and will not pay 43800 plus TTL
Car's Msrp with destination charge is 44,697.00. I will offer 41500 including TTL for the IS350 equipped as requested
His next reply was:
I cannot entertain your offer at this time.
Tony
I then sent him a screenshot from lexus.com with the following:
Tony,
Your price is only 700 below Msrp. Invoice is roughly 39k So why do you feel you need to make so much profit?
I will revise my final offer to 42,500 TTL included.
Here is a screenshot from Lexus.com with the options I want:

What do you guys think?

I bought the same configuration on my 06, and was able to go from $44,500 down to $41,800. The 2007 is still very new...you might have to wait awhile to get that kind of discount. By the way, if you're including TTL, you're low balling the dealer with your offer IMO. If people are paying near MSRP, I have no idea why they would sell to you for a $5-6k discount.

Ya, on the 07, you're basically lowballing them. The dealership will sell this car to someone that will pay higher than what you offered. Yes they "can" sell it for cheaper, but why would they when they know they could sell it to the next person for higher.
This is one of those cars that the Dealer has slightly more control than the buyer... compare to say my last car, the RX-8, I bought that car $200 above invoice when it first came out. Not many people wanted to buy it, thus I had more of the power in the sale.

Lol. You offered 41500 including TTL? unless your tax is less than 5 percent, then they're selling it for under invoice. For an 07. hahaha. Tony probably is just laughing at that offer, and probably thinks you're not serious. Especially with the follow up email of "Why do you feel like you need to make so much profit?" Good luck. You can maybe get an 06 for 41500 otd.

Dealers
Are you lock-in on this dealership try another with the same request.
If your willing to travel look at Arizona or Texas. I did all mine thru the internet and got a great deal.
Next door neighbor just bought your 2007 configuration for $41,200 here in CA
Keeping Pushing don't settle, worse case wait a few month's.
Fact: these cars are already marked up 10% to 15 % depending on where your located.
Good Luck

Would 43,500 OTD be acceptable?

When I purchased mine early in the model year (06) the dealers were only dealing on the options portion of the mark up. They were still getting full MSRP for the base model cost.
So in your case code LT (Lux with 18" wheels) the mark-up was $843 and the code VN (Nav with ML) the mark up was $670. So they were only dealing on that $1513 margin.
The IS is a hot seller, either wait or as suggested go for an '06 model.

Dang. Tax is 2.9%? Interesting. Then in my opinion, 42500 otd is a...."fair" price. but not for an 07. It just came out, so you can expect many people willing to pay what the dealer is asking for. Maybe when the G35 comes out, plus a couple months (let's say 3-4), you should be able to get an 07 IS350 for 41500-42500 otd.

I paid about $500 over invoice for my is350 in June. I found dealers were really anxious to move cars at the end of the month if it was on the lot. I had one dealer down to invoice on a 350 he had on the lot (it just wasn't the one I wanted).

Couple of thoughts:
- Forget OTD, most salesman aren't finance gurus, so they can't do the math. Make it simple, make your offers neg price + TT&L. They can't screw that up.
- Get other internet offers, preferably by email. (even if it's in CA) If you want to pit dealer vs dealer, you need to have written proof. Once you get the lowest offer on the config you want, then go to your local dealer to get him to match it. If he gets within 500, pull the trigger since it's always logistically better to buy local than to have to travel.

However, i do agree with pitting dealers against each other, especially ina n area like socal. Email every lexus dealer you can and see who has the lowest price. I got about $4k off msrp (OTD) of my '06 by doing this.
