why can't lexus tune the 2.5 to more output..

aftermarket supercharged 2.5s will be awesome.. the 250 will follow the pass of the 1st gen 200s from japan..

It's as bad an idea as buying a 3 series last year or just recently for example
I think many who would opt for an IS250 instead of an IS350 likely do not have hp as their top priority anyway, but just a stylish compact luxury sports sedan. It depends whether the IS250 is powerful enough for your purpose.
It's getting very competitive & manufacturers will try to upgrade more frequently as ever before, you can never wait for the latest/best in cars or you'd be waiting forever . . .

well lets just put an end to this myth forever..

http://lexus.com.cn/showroom/is_2005/index.html

the 2nd gen IS300 has been available in china since 2006.. it uses the 3.0 liter 3GR-FE engine from the gs300.. the reason is that in china.. the quality of gas can not accomodate direct injection technology.

there is no way there will be an 08 is300 based on the old 3gr-fe engine.. that is like stepping back in time just to up a few hp

if there is any kind of power increase for 08 it will most likely be a more tuned version of the current 2.5 in the 250

the guy that started the thread on my.is said he has no insider news.. only speculation

That's only in China, IF there is going to be an IS300 in 2008, it's likely to be the 2006 GS300's engine, that's the newer 3GR-FSE engine . . .

I think it unlikely that 2 years after the introduction that the Lexus would as the previous post mention take a step backward. its morely for the rumours of the coupe to be a special exception to that upgrading engine idea. But as for the standing 250, your buying it for style and comparable performance to other low end lux cars. If your looking for more power speculation, look for variants of the 350 line.

You guys are acting like the IS250 is a failure. I live in S. Florida, and I see FAR more IS250s than IS350s. They're selling just fine, and are at a price point that makes them more affordable to a lot of people.

A lot of people are buying these cars for their appearance and comfort, not for horsepower. If you need something to compare this to, think about how many V6 mustangs are sold v. the GT.

And that's me. i currently drive a 200HP Accord EX V6. I'm mostly intereted in the luxury features etc..I actually drove the G35 coupe first and was thinking "wow this car is fast and really fun", but when i sat in the IS250 i was blown away with the quality of the car. I"ve been driving that 200HP accord for over 4 years and HP isn't the reason i want to get a new car.

i think only the forum junkies, "tooners" and car mag editors like to talk hp #s all day ..

when you step back and look at the bigger picture.. you realise.. 90% of people who buy a 250 and 350 don't really give a ***** about hp.. they look at the car as a whole

around here.. i've seen a lot of middle aged asian women who drives a 350 but go slower than grandma pushing a shopping cart.. 350 is a bigger number than 250.. status symbol

I think the next logical step would be an IS250 Hybrid, better mileage and performance!

Default IS250 vs IS300

Having driven (two) Lexus IS200 for 5 years and 100.000 kms, I was naturally waiting for the new IS to arrive, in Geneva March 2005.

I was really dissapointed when I first test drove an Auto Pack Sport IS250. The car is far too heavy for 204 PS. It is heavier, has less torque, less power than the IS300 (Gen 1).

I had hard time making up my mind, but ultimately decided to go for a used IS300 (L6) instead of a new IS250, at least until the Gen² IS300 (V6) or maybe the IS350 (I would not bet on this) is imported over to Europe.

no replacement for displacement.. the 3.0 in the 1st gen has torque advantage over the 250.. that is what most people "feel" when they say 250 has less power than the 1st gen

but when it comes to hp.. 215 on the 1st gen was on the old ASE hp and torque reporting standard.. 204 on the 2nd gen is under new ASE hp and torque standards..

if the ase standards didn't change.. the is250 would be rated at 220hp like quoted when originally announced by lexus..

less torque is the 250's real draw back.. and that is because of less displacement

i totally agree with you. most people are more about having the 350 over 250 because of the status of saying i got a 350.

BMW E46 99 and 00 offered 323 that actually has 2.5 motor in it. Also the engine was detuned (~171hp) from what it can actually produce. Why? Because the big brother is 328, which was not much more powerful at that time (~205hp).

'01 and up, BMW offered 325 (also with 2.5 motor, but with more hp, I believe around 190-ish) and 330, which went up in hp around 225-ish, again if my memory serves me right.

My point is, bumping up displacement and Hp mid-life has been done before, and is possible. Remember RX330 and RX350, ES300 and ES330? Same story.

I will be killing myself!! If they launch IS300 in HK or MO less than a year after they launch IS250!! Offical launch at May 2006...

Anyway I wish that I could change the engine HAHA...

By the way there is IS300 out already!! In CN they only have IS300 not 350 or 250... Lucky them...
