AS Dennis Miller (Comedian) would say: You GOT to be sh..ting me? That's a bunch of money for something you'll seldom use in your daily drive. But whatever turns your crankshaft....

And a G35 has more than the Hyundai......and your point is?
The nice part here is you have a choice of powerplants. You want the dragster you buy the 350. You want a tourer you buy the 250. No problem. Why fuss about it?
Not sure after thinking more about it if Lexus will drop the 250 for the 300. The direction in America is not more power but better mileage. Engines cost millions to develop so why waste the money when they have a winner on their hands right now. The proof of that is the IS250 out sells the IS350 by a considerable margin and, at this price point, it's seldem about the money.
If having more power is the reason people buy than why are they buying the IS250 when Acrua, Nissan and Hyundai all have more? Could it be Lexus quality? There is a lot more to a car than just the engine.

why can't the is350 be a tourer too
i agree with 4TehNguyen
for a little more.. you get a crap load more power and bigger brakes... it is a bargain... definately worth it.... you can spend the same amount of money and won't get close to an is350...
now if it was 25hp different between the two model... then it would be a different story

As to the 'little more' I guess it depends on how big your allowance is. For me, it's not a little bit....but a lot more.
Whatever floats your boat. Despite what some people say: You only go around once so enjoy the ride.

BMW E46 99 and 00 offered 323 that actually has 2.5 motor in it. Also the engine was detuned (~171hp) from what it can actually produce. Why? Because the big brother is 328, which was not much more powerful at that time (~205hp).
'01 and up, BMW offered 325 (also with 2.5 motor, but with more hp, I believe around 190-ish) and 330, which went up in hp around 225-ish, again if my memory serves me right.
My point is, bumping up displacement and Hp mid-life has been done before, and is possible. Remember RX330 and RX350, ES300 and ES330? Same story.

i've speculated this for some time, and for most it's since the news of the chinese variant 06 is300 (which is not the engine from the american 06 gs300). it makes perfect sense for an upgrade to the 06 gs300 fse engine to keep the market competitive.
and to help make it clear for those wondering about the chinese 2is.. that engine is basically a 3.0 liter variant of the 3.5 liter v6 found in the new camry/es350.

hrmmmsss....the only reason i brought the is250, is because i like the way it drives, the appearence, and the craftmanship of it. I mean if i want speed i also have a jetta that is 2x cheaper then the IS, but has a GT28RS in it making 368whp. But i guess the point is that i just want a car that can be a everyday driver that look nice, and drive well. But everyone has their own opinion on what they want.

Yup, thats why the IS250 still might be called an IS250 with a 3.0 engine from the GS.
I still think that they will drop the 3.0 V6 from the GS into the IS250.
Look the e90 has been out less then 2 years and was called 325i now its called a 328i for 2007 with more hp. So whats the big deal. Lexus could do the same after two years of the new IS being out. Since Lexus IS "trying" to compete with BMW. If they really are trying to compete with BMW they WILL drop the 3.0L engine in the new IS250.

Hard to believe Lexus will dump a brand new engine in two years. The US is still their largest market and with the gas situation being what it is this engine is a winner for them.
As long as they have the IS350 motor and the upcoming IS500 I can see no reason for them to mess with the basic engine.
As for Lexus 'trying' to compete with BMW. I think Lexus is doing a pretty good job at making BMW rethink their future. Toyota has enough money to buy BMW out of petty cash!
