Lexus is not going to dump the engine. It will still be used in Europe/Asia and the rest of the market
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
No doubt. Keep in mind that Lexus also has a diesel motor for Europe and that diesels are coming back to the US in a big way for 2008 and I'm sure Lexus will be a player in this arena.

I'm still going with the 250 being around for a while. Fun to think about though.

i think the is250 to 300 option is dependent on this years sale. if sales slump considerably from the 1st year model then theyre going to utilize the 300 to increase sales. i however feel the 250 is adequate enough, and if they should utilize the 300 then shouldnt there be an increase of 1-2k in the base price? keeping it at 30k was a smart move by lexus and they should keep it that way.

The 300 engine is now considered "obsolete" in the U.S. market.

The 250 satisfies a lot of people that don't need the speed, and don't need to spend the extra $4.5k. For now, the 250 sells well, and since it sells, Lexus won't have to worry about it until they can't sell it. Lexus is still exceeding sales expectations for the 250, and as much as "enthusiasts" want more power, they won't get it from the IS250.

Enthusiasts want more power than the 250. Consumers are buying the 250. Enthusiasts are buying the 350. Consumers outnumber enthusiasts. The 250 will stay...

It would be really dumb to drop the 250 engine for the 300 and lexus is not dumb. Maybe we have really good one since we have been getting 28 city and 34 highway (Cruise set at 87mph). This is +2 mpg higher than both ranges on the sticker. It's hard to find a vehicle that even meets the EPA rating but this one exceeds it. I really do not find myself wanting for power. The up coming is500 should solve anyones power needs. In addition the 250 handles better than the 350 because there is less weight over the front end. I'm certain if they are seeking a few more horsepower there is still some areas to tap in the 250 motor. There is always a turbocharger or supercharger. Even BMW is now using turbos on the coupe. For now though we won't sell ours for anything. Seems like a bargin for the price.

The salesman told me today the IS250 account for 65% of their sales right now. And i think he meant across all models

Thumbs up Not sure if this is a repost: 270hp IS300

http://www.timesofoman.com/newsdetai...35454&pn=local

Man if this is true, I can see a bump in horsepower for the IS350 to further differentiate itself from its little brother and not too far behind from its soon-to-be bad**** big brother (IS500). My guess for the 2008 IS350 is 320 hp.

It's a good move and a necessary move for Lexus to maintain the favorable performance numbers against the BMW 335 and the recently released 2007 Infiniti G35.

more ES are sold vs IS, so im guessing 65% is 250/350 percentages, doubt the IS250 is 65% of the entire lineup

that's only in the middle east where they don't have any 2nd gen IS at all yet.. there is no 250 or 350 so the 300 fills both shoes..

they will not release a 300 in the states .. thats like stepping on their own toes.. 250 is the basic.. 350 if you want more go.. 500 if you really wanna go

204 Hp is not enough in this segment: G35 - 300Hp, BMW 325 going to 328 with 230 hp. BMW330 is going from 255 hp to 300 hp. Even Camry/Altima/Accord has more power than IS250. Starting at $31K and only 204 hp. Unacceptable!

For 2007, GS300 is gone from the line up, replaced by GS350. History will repeat itself with the 2008 IS 250 to IS300. I'm surprised Lexus didn't make this happen earlier, as in Model year 2007. BMW made the change within one year. From the 330 255 hp in 2006 to 300hp unit for 2007".

Let the speculation begin.

I found this in another IS forum whta do you guys think??????
Thanks for sharing but some of us have spoken about this over a year ago.

The IS300 they refer in the article is the 2nd generation IS with 270hp.
http://www.lexusoman.com/English/select/is.shtml

One thing that jumps out is of course the horsepower increase for the 3.0 liter V6 to 270hp (from 245hp in the 2006 GS300).

Personally, I think Lexus should add the 270hp GS300 back in the lineup for 2008 and price it for let's say $3K less than the GS350. Given that the IS250 outsells the IS350 and GS350 way outsells the GS430, the GS300 makes it attractive for folks who are on the fence.

This strategy works well for BMW. Volumes go into the 525, 530 models and satisfy the enthusiasts (i.e. extra rich) with the 550 and the M5. If I remember correctly, dealers in the past and present complains that Lexus does not provide enough model options.

Two of my *personal* opinions:

1.
With 08 IS300's HP around 250hp+, it will definetely bite a small piece of the IS350 sales. The fact that majority of lexus buyers dont really care about HP, current IS250s sales is already at 65%. With 08 IS300, there will definetely be crossshopping between IS350 and IS300. Very likely the proportion will increase >65% unless the IS350's HP is bumped up too.

2.
I bought the 250 only because it has awd.
So, either Lexus come out with the IS350 AWD or IS300 AWD but not both. They both gonna compete with each other because of the same reason as #1 above.

IS250 is not selling well over here, people would rather go for Audi's and BMW's.

An Audi A6 3.2l V6 Attraction / 255 ps is prices 42.340 €
A BMW 530i Premiere /258 PS is priced 44.050

An Auto IS250 Pack Executive / 204 PS is priced 46.600 €

Guess what ... it does not sell quite well. In order to compete with german cars at that level of pricing, it requires much more power.

I don't think they will put the GS motor in the IS250. The I6 in the GS is an old motor and actually gets worse gas mileage than even the IS350. It just doesn't make sense.
