How about the new 3.0 V6?

Guess what ... it does not sell quite well. In order to compete with german cars at that level of pricing, it requires much more power.
Is the IS 220d sold in France?

they will not put the engine in the 250.. the 250 had millions of dollars spent on developing its own engine..

if anything.. they will improve upon the 250's engine to produce more..

that 300 is just like the 300 they sell in china.. 228 hp.. and notice how they dont say "direct injected" ..

its the same engine just with a different crank to increase the displacement, its nothing vastly different and this engine already exists from the GS300

I disagree, The IS300 for China may not have the direct injection, but if you follow the link in the previous post, you'll see that is IS300 on that website is direct injected. Also, the HP is 270, listed as 228 net.

and here is another one to help clear things up:

the 2006 gs300 has a 3.0 FSE V6 (not I6)!!!! it lasted only one yr in america, got replaced for 2007 by the 3.5 FSE V6 found in the is350. so it IS easily possible that after 2 yrs, the 2.5 FSE V6 could be dropped in america.

Yes, the IS 220d is sold all over Europe, and it is selling better than the IS250.

However Lexus had problems with early models, regarding gas mileage and electronic problems, injectors had to be changed with new type and ECU reprogrammed. But the IS220d still gets mixed feelings, gear ratio either with Pack models (long) or Sport Package (short) is not fully usable, the IS220d does not comme with an Auto box and it should, but the good point is that the price tag is quite competitive with german cars (which is not the case for the IS250) the Pack version (quite basic) is priced at €31.300.

To be a winner, the IS220d should have a 6 cylinder diesel engine and an auto box.

Default Lexus has got to come up with a solution

One way or another, Lexus has got to come up with a solution, at least for Europe where the IS350 is not an option. 204 Hp for that kind of weight (quite the sams as GS's) is not enough when compared with German cars. The maximum torque is so high (4600 rpm) that you really need to push the engine very hard to get and feel the power. That is not quite you would expect from an auto box nor from a Lexus.

Lexus have multiple choices:

1) Drop the 2.5l and go for 3.0
2) Boost the power of the 2.5l up to 250 hp
3) Ask TTE to come up with a super charger kit for IS250

I would sign right away for a Gen² IS300 with 270 hp, (http://www.lexusoman.com/English/select/is.shtml).

Agree. I still bought the car anyhow. If the IS 250 was engaging to drive (even just a little bit), I'd likely be singing a different tune. It has enough power for what I expect out of it, though. And when I was test driving cars, I found that the IS250 actually felt quicker on the lower end, and equally fast on the top end, than the first E90 325i drivetrain.

The same website lists the GS300 at 245hp.
http://www.lexusoman.com/English/sel...fications.html

That suggests the V6 in the IS300 is an "enhanced version" with SAE rated at 270hp.

On the very same web site, on the specs page here is what is stated :
IS300 PREMIUM

Innovative Technology

* 3.0 Litre, V6, DOHC, 24 Valve, 270 HP (228 HP- net)
I wonder what makes such a difference (270 hp vs 228 hp) between power and 'net' power.
