Default And so it begins out there "G35 stomps Is350"

The Car&Driver editor Mark Gillies wrotes on this month issue.

"Why on earth would one buy a Lexus IS350? The Lexus isn't appreciably quicker, doesn't look as good, and is a fairly anodyne driving experience, whereas the G35 is a very soulful machine. The Lexus has a more beautifully wrought interior than the G35's (much improved) cabin, but that's about its ONLY advantage. In short, Infiniti does a much better job of being the Japanese luxury brand that makes cars we WANT TO drive."

One more point. The new G35 starts low $30K, not over $36K like IS350, and comes with every standard features that IS350 offers.
gotta love the fact that everyone in the world is different, life wouldnt be fun.

It's funny how most everyone who posted in that thread disagrees completely with the Car & Driver editor. There is also the pretty much a consensus as to they all would rather an IS350, if the prices were similar. If the G is some $10,000 cheaper though, it is a bargain, for sure... I'm just glad I can afford my IS350, as I still love it much more than anything else out there right now.

I hope my post above didn't come off as flame-ish (is that a word? ), I simply wanted to say how happy I am with my decision to purchase an IS350, something I'm sure everyone on any forum can appreciate...

IMO the G35 sedan doesn't look anywhere near as sporty as the IS350... when i was researching, it came down to the G35 coupe vs the IS350, with the is350 winning cause i was over the "coupe" phase of my life :P That and every 5th car seems to be a g35 in socal...

Seriously, i don't mind if more people buy the g35's now cause of that article, cause that just means that my car is that much more unique

Not at all, just wanted to head off folks who may think about joining (on either forums) to start the flaming Happens quite often when links like this get posted so we like to get in front of the issue

Some people will like the IS more. You have certain things the G does not offer.

Is one better than the other? It depends on what you buy. Who cares what the other guy buys or thinks? It's YOUR car...

Well said. I really like my IS 350 but I like my wife's MB CLK too. They are different cars. So we have two cars I really like, I think that is great!

G35 looks goofy, not muscle car like IS350.

Yes, it really comes down to the buyer's preferences. I looked at the G35 coupe before I pulled the trigger on my IS350 and I was offered a very good deal at $395.xx per month (including tax) on a 12 months lease, 12K miles/yr, w/$3500 down on a MSRP of $41,xxx but I decided against it because it's just NOT for me. I picked the IS350 due to Lexus's legendary reliability reputation and HIGH resale value, a bit faster than the G35 plus the FUN factor!

I like the current G35 and aside from the interior, it's a pretty good bargain (Canadian pricing). Loaded up with premium + nav package, it's the same as a midrange IS250 RWD auto. Then again, Canadian IS packages are a tad pricey. Which would I get? Depends on the priorities I suppose. I'm still edging towards the IS because of the beautifully crafted interior, great fuel economy (even with AWD) and crisp styling which I thought is a big step up from the Altezza/IS300. Make no mistake, the IS300 looked great when it came out but the only bit about the interior I liked was the chronograph-style instruments. The rest of it was a bit iffy .

I am in the buying process (next 3-4 months). I have read every shread of material I can get my hands on and the decision is going to be a tough one. A couple of things that drive me away from the Lexus is the very tight back seat and the fact that the lease rates generally are not very good, even in the 2 big sale months. Of course the super agressive exterior, the fit and finish of the interior and the Lexus service, plus it's an all around nice driving car pull me towards the IS, and then the sportiness, handling (no, I have not driven it, but if it's better than the last generation, it's going to be a beast and a ton of fun to drive), revised interior (which looks sweet in the pics), larger back seat and price drive me to the G...Just my thoughts...
