Take a look at the 2IS FAQ thread stickied at the top of the forum.

Pay particular attention to the first item in section four, regarding enabling "dyno mode".

Eh, don't feel bad... I flored my car during the test drive. Not going to hurt anything unless you did it for extended periods of time and often enough.

If you ask me, if an engine can't withstand high revving straight away it isn't really strong enough. I don't think I ever paid attention to break in period and my car is fine.

I will be doing donuts in the dealer parking lot with VDIM 100% disabled when I pick up my IS350, you can guarantee that!

break in for modern cars is a huge debate, some people think you dont need it anymore with the modern metals used, some people think you do a moderately aggressive break in, some people think you baby it. Its too hard to prove which method is better. This cars breakin is substantially quicker than other cars 621 miles vs 1200-1500 sometimes. I just drove it normal when I got mine. The car has been dynoed/redlined at least once from the factory so the attempts at "babying" it might not be as important since it has been redlined a couple times from the factory

On the lude forum there was a Nissan engineer who tests engines and he said cars that were broken in with moderate (midranging) break in made more power, sealed better than babied engines. Who knows, its too hard to consistantly build engines with the exact same power (some will be stronger than others even tho its the same parts) so doing an experiment has too many uncontrolled variables to get a concrete decision.

I am moderately aggressive during break-in. I have 500 miles on the clock and have been flooring it every once in a while. No biggie. From what I read in the manual break-in is 600 miles right?

As much theory and debate there is about proper engine break in, I have yet to hear of a single instance where someone killed their engine due to improper break in. Lexus wouldn't sell a car that can't withstand full throttle acceleration during a test drive.

Think about how many magazines test cars with fewer than 1,000 miles. They beat the hell out of them, and I have yet to hear of a piston shooting through the hood.

In terms of engine longevity, I bet the difference is marginal. I'd also be pretty surprised to find any of you driving your cars at 150k miles. If you want to baby your cars for a future used car owner, then that's your decision.

Dude who cares, it's a Lexus, it'll never break.
Drive it till you stole it, even after ten years and 200k miles....!

i floored it at 650.. seems ok..cars these days are built good, they dont really require a "break-in" period. dats like in the old days man...
