Default Polish or Wax?

I am sorry if there is such a thread already, but i can't find it. Anyways, do you guys refer wax or polish for your 2IS?
Currently i am using Zaino polish and their other products, but i've read somewhere that polish will harm your clear coat (i am using Zaino polish for clear coat BTW). It will be helpful if you guys can give me your opinion so i know what product to use on my Crystal White since Winter months are coming. thanks,

Kuki

I am very satisfied with the newer "Meguiar's NXT" tech wax paste.

Mine is a gold pearl white, with clear coat.

The trick with the synthetic polymers wax is that it needs time to dry prior to the haze removal.

Very impressed with the Microfiber buffing cloths, using them for the first time over newly purchased terry cloth towels.

Polish will remove your swirls/scratches and clean the paint. A good wax will seal the paint. Two different things. I reccomend getting a P21S system (polish and wax).

If you want to wear away layers of clearcoat, then use polish.
If you want to protect your clearcoat, then use wax.

I have the 3 levels of Meguiars Deep Crystal System...Step 1 is a paint cleaner which gets the paint ready for polish and wax.....Step 2 is the Polish..and Step 3 is the Carnauba Wax. This stuff works awesome on my car. Its just really time consuming if you do it by hand. The drying part is pretty fast. I didn't have to wait too long in order for it to start hazing. I suggest you do both. The combination of a polish and wax will really make your car shine. Good Luck.

You should search.

Zaino is not a 'polish' persay, just by name, it's not abrasive. It just fills in swirls.

BTW: This should be in the detailing forum.

As already mentioned, Zaino isn't really a polish, it's a sealant. A real polish contains abrasives that will remove scratches/swirls.

So keep using Zaino if you like it... it's about the best sealant there is, at least in terms of longevity.

everything u ever wanted to know about detailing

http://autopia.org/

personally, I would wash clay polish (as necessary), then your choice of sealant or wax, or both. Put the sealant first then top it with a carnauba for the slickest look. I like the carnauba because you can layer them.

i've used nxt also, i like it, but since it's a cleaner wax you can't really layer it so you wont' get that really deep look

Every time you use a polish, it wears away your clearcoat, hence how it takes out swirls. If I ever do this, it is about once a year. Its a daily driver so I'm realistic about it and don't worry too much. The best strategy is really not to get them there in the first place by careful washing. I try to wax every month, but sometimes that doesn't happen.

And visit autopia.org. Best detailing site I've ever seen.

You will want to use both polish AND wax. Each of these perform different tasks when taking care of your paint.

The main purpose of polish is to clean and condition the surface.
Polish will remove stains, swirls, and minor scratches in the clearcoat. Wax, on the other hand, is designed to be a sacrificial layer that protects the surface after it has been polished.

Kuki, I have a Crystal White car too, and here are the steps I use to keep the paint in top condition:

1. Wash car
2. Bug & Tar removal (Meguiars Bug & Tar Remover)
3. Clay
4. Polish (3M Imperial Hand Glaze or Meguiar's #7)
5. Wax or Sealant (Currently using Meguiar's NXT)

Note that the polish and wax are the LAST steps after steps 1-3 (which are cleaning steps).

You probably just purchased the car, right? You really don't need to polish it now. Get a good wax on it and wax it several times a year depending on how you use your car.

Polishes do what the others have said as do clay bars. They are not necessary when the car is new. Unless you just really enjoy doing a three, four, five step process to polish and wax your car, just lay a good quality wax down and your good to go. Try a couple different brands and types and you will develop a favorite. I like the Klasse product myself but that requires more time to apply due to the fact that you only use a little bit each time but put on many layers. Stuff is amazing when applied properly

The detail forum is great but is more for those of us who are a bit obsessive about detailing cars. The average person needs only to keep a good wax coat on all year. Making 3-4 applications a year and using a cleaner wax once per year will keep your car looking very nice with a minimal amount of work. All the other stuff is really just for fun and seeing how clean and shinny you can make your paint!!
