Question How do I hook up my IPOD?

HI - i just bought a Lexus IS 250 and there is a little plug in the console for an IPOD. Where can i get a cord that simply runs from my IPOD to the plug, so that I can listen to it over the car speakers? I am not looking for anything fancy, could just a simple cord.

Cheapest and easiest solution is a mini-phone plug to mini-phone plug patch cord like they sell at Radio Shack. For better sound quality, you can get cable that hooks up to the dock connector, like the one made by Sik. For further info, use the search function.

Radioshack has a 1 ft. cord that works, also radioshack has a 6 ft. cord that has gold tips on it for like $14 and the sound quality is great on the 6ft. once which I had but you have to bundle up the cord so it does not take up a huge amount of space! I think the 1 ft. cable would be a bit short but not sure...

If you want better sound quality, gold connectors are not the way to get it. Instead, get a cable that hooks up to the line level output on the dock connector, which bypasses the mediocre headphone amp in the ipod.

I noticed you guys are saying get gold tips on the mini-mini cord. Will that get rid of the high pitch I hear in the background when the volume is low and I am accelerating? Has anyone else noticed it?

Nobody is saying to get gold tips. They are a complete waste of money.

Are you using a charging cable? If so, do you get the noise with the charging cable disconnected?

The sound that you get through the headphone jack on the iPod is actually quite bad. Not that I would ever expect to get high quality sound from a small hand-held device like that in the first place. But...

I wouldn't waste your money on anything fancy, because you'll never know the difference. Just pick up the $5 cable they sell at Radio Slack, and be done with it.

Working on something with the Line Out jack on the dock would be the best solution. Sounds WAY better.

Didn't think of unhooking the charger.. I've give that a shot and see what happens.

Absolutely. And with a little bargain hunting on eBay, not much more costly.

Get something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/RCA-to-Dock-Conn...QQcmdZViewItem

and add an rca jack to mini phone plug converter from Radio Shack and you are golden.

I bet when you unplug the charger, the noise will go away. If you want to use the charger, you'll need a ground loop isolator like this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-fSlFPpf...+loop+isolator

How do you know so much about this stuff? lol, I need to put you in a favorites menu to contact in case of questions.

By the way, I have 2 Bichons, and they are the best dogs in the world. No shedding, and so sweet.

I did the eBay thing for my own hookup. The ground loop isolator I can't take credit for; others on the forum have had the problem and solved it.

Way to go! Bichons rule. Mine turned 15 this summer, and is unfortunately starting to have a few medical issues, but he's still the same sweetheart he has always been.

Everything you want to know about hooking up your ipod to your 2IS is not only documented in details but also there are pics, questions, and various solutions ranging from inexpensive simple setups to elaborate remote-control, wireless, dock-connectors to the more expensive vais-unit.

Just do a simple search thru this forum there's almost a year's worth of good information for dozens of contributors who have gone thru this process 10 times over.

But we are glad you asked.
