ML Subwoofer - how to know if it's blown?

Mine will rattle some times (doesn't matter what vol or CD, radio, etc) and then it's OK for a week or so. It seemed to do it more during the summer. It sounds like the base increases 3Xs. I listen at over 40 all the time (except when the old lady is in the car).

I confirmed that the rattle is coming from the subwoofer. It seems like the rattle is coming from the left side of the woofer. Are there two woofers in there?

wow I'm amazed how many people have this sub blown on such an expensive system, i have the non-ML system and my sub is still going at 60K miles and I play music at 50 everyday
I'm ripping it out in a couple of weeks and getting a single Rockford Fosgate P3 or T1
with matching amp and custom fiberglassed box color matched to the car
