I don't think the variation in throttle angle has anything to do with VDIM. Why would VDIM cause the same change in throttle in 3rd gear as it does in 1st? I think it has something to do with VVTi.

Variable Valve Timing with Inteligence?! Maximising air flow to match the changes in valve timing? I guess it could be possible. I was more thinking along the lines that at WOT the ECU is programmed to keep the shifts as smooth as possible, (read Lexus), keeping traction at its max without breaking the tires. I've never driven my car without the nannies so,...you would probably know more about this from experience.
