As for people of greater height or girth, the backseats can be very uncomfortable. It also depends on how the front passengers lean/position their seat.
Best thing to do: TEST DRIVE IT WITH YOUR BROTHERS!!!

I carpool with a 6' 2" 250lb guy and my wife everyday. He said although the rear seats are kinda tight around knees and limited headroom, it's actually not that bad for a short trip. But on longer trip it'll definitely be uncomfortable.

Don't know why this keeps coming up .....
One of the complaints that always crops up on the IS is 'lack of legroom', to which I say, 'SO WHAT?'. The IS is NOT a family sedan, and those that want to compare it to a Camry in this regard miss the whole point. Yes, the back is cramped, but I've driven people to the restaurant for a night out with no complaints. But 99% of the time there is no one in the back seat so who cares about the relative lack of legroom.
Few people who are over 6' are going to be happy in a sports sedan like a BMW, Audi, or Infiniti. That's the nature of the beast. If you need more room step up to an ES, or a BMW 5 series.

Before I purchased the 2IS, I actually was going for a used CPO 05 MB SLK 320. Yeap, that one is a 2-seater roadster allrite'.
Moral of the story:
I crossshoped between a roadster and the 2IS, as I am single, have 1 passanger in front 99% of the time
I used the rear seat of my 2IS to put my work briefcase, gymn bag, dry groceries bag, painting, frames..seldom people. The rear seat of the 2IS is like a coupe. Very small indeed.
If you want comfortable rear seat, for long drives especially...get a full size sedan or those SUVs.

For anybody more than 5'6" or so, I would say the back seat is a tight squeeze, especially on a long trip. Then again, I'm alone in my car for probably 95% of the time, so it's all good.

the legroom sucks, basically nonexistent. but since it's "only 1% of the time," it doesn't matter.....

I have to agree with what others have said, 99% of the time it's only me in the car so the back space isn't an issue. If you are constantly going to be having people in the car you might want to check out the ES.
Now my best friend's husband is well over 6' tall and he has rode in the back of the car several times and while being tight, he says that is is very comfortable. But he did note that anything more than a short drive (>1hr, ok a short drive in Houston ) would get old fast.
For me the car just "works" it's a blast to drive and a real looker.
