Wow, that was a pretty hard hit, how fast was the jeep going? Looks like your whole trunk is gone! Did the jeep sustain any damage? It's pretty scary, I live in the bay area and I travel the 101/280 all the time

I doubt it will be totalled out.....my buddy's wreck in a new Gallant was gnarly.....the trunk was literally ripped off the car and from the axel back was gone.

The ins. put it all back together.......and the Galant is half the price of a 2IS.

I'm curious what their standard is. Every company has a high water mark for cost of repair, do you know what your company requires for a total? Some are as high as 80 percent of ACV.

Truthfully, it's hard to tell exactly how bad the damage is from just two pictures. My biggest concern would be the body seams at the floor pan. If those seams are still in good shape, it should be possible to do a quality repair. Regardless, your car will be visiting the EZ Liner for sure.

Make sure your insurance co files a diminished value claim - you should get add'l compensation in case you do decide to sell or trade-in. Good luck.

my adjustor (mercury insurance) told me that it will cost $20k to fix it, but the guy's insurance (AAA) only estimated $14k (which is a bunch of crap as the people from the car repair shop told me), so the body shop faxed all the list of damages to AAA because adjustor missed a lot of damaged stuff from my car. so my question is... do you think i should trade-in my car? i just bought my car last feb and i've got 16k miles on it. the bodyshop told me that they have to replace the quarter panel and basically replace the whole back of my car. thanks for your input!

Is your car leased, or did you purchase? If you leased and it feels ok after the repair, keep it. Especially if you put a significant amount of money down on the lease.

If you financed, fight for diminished value. Have a third party take a look at the car after the repair to ensure everything was done right. Don't be afraid to take it back if something isn't perfect. Visit regularly, and make sure the body shop staff knows that it isn't acceptable to use your car as an apartment while it's there (I got a car back from repairs with McDonalds bags in the back seat and cigarettes in the ash tray). If the car doesn't feel right after you get it back, trade it in.

Don't assume it will be screwed up when you get it back. People jump to conclusions in these matters, but if you have a good shope working on the car and they care about the end result, your car could be in great shape when you get it back.

With that much estimated damage, can you just refuse to fix the car and demand for new one from the insurance company?

No. Can you imagine what our insurance payments would look like if a new car could be demanded whenever someone gets in an accident?

Insurance companies have guidelines for totalling out cars. Naturally, the more a car is worth, the higher that threshold is. If you have a $15k car and get $12k in damage, it's likely totalled. The same damage on a $44k IS350 may well be considered worth repairing by the insurance company.

I got in an accident with my 99 Toyoa RAV4 a few weeks back. The damage is right about 2500 and it was not totalled. I was told by the bodyshop owner that Toyota based auto have a higher % of damaged allowed bacause of the way they are built. Not sure if that is true or not but I was sure my Rav was going to be a gonner. Go figure.

My car just got rear ended. How well did they fix your car? How does it drive? How long did it take them to fix it?

hard to believe if your damages was at $11K and this car is not totaled based on the extensive of the visual damages. Bottomline, don't let insurance companies (yours or the other party's) off easy.

My last car was a Dodge Magnum that was hit in the front end and sustained 15K in damages. The ins co didn't total it either although after the 2 months it took to fix it and the $2500 in rental vehicle expense along with the $6500 check that they wrote me for diminished value they should have. However in the end the car looked and drove like brand new. I would still have it to this day if the 2IS hadn't come out.

It's pretty much been proven that gas tanks are designed not to blow up, I had a bad experience with a punctured gas tank about 6 months ago...did you yel, "my neck, owww my neck, I need an ambulance!!"
