Can anyone tell me if the SiK ipod power adapter is small enough so that you can close the center console lid?

I bought a Radio Shack 2-Outlet 12VDC Car Power Adapter, Model 270-1525, for my daughter to use her ipod charger. It rotates 90 degrees so most any charger would work. Even when installed, there is still room to use the auxillary stereo plug. Try this:

ok, so does that mean the Sik will not fit by itself? If so, what is the best alternative that is actually available (all the chargers I have found have doc connectors)? I want as few devices clutering up the console as possible.

forum member salimshah has mentioned to me that his sik ipod car adapter gives a lot of noise feedback, i.e. alternator hum. half of the reviews on the apple store website give very bad reviews, claiming that the aftermarket charger sold through apple does not have a voltage regulator and the fast-burning fuse built in is not functioning properly, leaving a lot of ipods fried.
i would consider something like this car adapter that has a firewire 12V dc connector and just use the firewire cable you use to sync your ipod. i dont know the range of input voltages for every ipod, but having an internal voltage regulator is key to avoid spikes from the car's charging system.

well, I just ordered the VAIS SLI. Hope I don't regret it. VAIS told me that all the overheating issues are due to incorrect installation (like laying the connectors up against metal next to the transmission). And as far as freezing up and no longer playing, they said this isn't an issue. Guess, we'll see.
