Default TSB on 06 Manual Transmission

Doing some surfing on the internet and came across a TSB as mentioned in the title. All the info I got was the following: TC008-06-RA62, and refers to the "proper transmission oil for RA62 Manual transmission", to read the rest I had to pay. Can anyone look this up for me and tell me what exactly it is for, i.e., do they need to change over the tranny oil and this causes better shifting?

Found more info:

But doesn't really explain if it improves shifting

"Using manual transmission gear oil other than API GL-5 may cause occurence of gear noise and damage to the transmission."

So it solves a problem with gearbox chatter (which I have noticed on mine). Thanks for the head's up. I'll be printing this out for my next trip to the dealer.

So my dealership told me "we have not received any information from Lexus regarding this TSB, sorry, we cannot perform any service for you regarding a TSB we have not been notified of". I don't like that. It exists or I wouldn't have found it. They have it documented I complained about the transmission. Anyone have the appropriate number handy I can call at corporate to ask them to give my dealer whatever info is necessary to have this performed. I could just fill it with aftermarket syn. but why pay when it should be under warranty?

The TSB says nothing in regards to switching to synthetic gear oil.

The transmission, more likely than not, has GL-5 grade gear oil in it already.

This is the common grade for good quality gear oil.

Tammy-
I never said the TSB referred to syn. gear oil, but if you read the prior posts, you would notice ihkskim mentioned switching to syn. gear oil improved his shifts. Also, the reason I'm concerned about this TSB is due to the fact my vin# is lower than the one mentioned as the cut off point for when they started using the GL-5 as opposed to GL-4, in addition to the "clunky" type shifts I experience. There is no need to dismiss my concerns when you are not informed.

All the TSB is for is to indicate at which VIN API GL-5 is required. Prior to the VIN with the change, either GL-4 or GL-5 is considered sufficient. After, ONLY GL-5 is acceptable. That's what it says, nothing more. And GL-4 is still just fine for gearboxes before the VIN identified in the TSB.

Pittdawg - your dealership service manager is flat out lying to you. They use TIS - ALL Lexus dealers use TIS. The TSB is in TIS, so they are quite aware of its existence. I would go elsewhere if possible. These guys just don't want to help you. If you want to address the problem, just tell your SA to login to TIS and find the TSB. You already have the number. It won't be hard to find.

My dealer told me the same but it's on record so if something ever goes wrong they will have to fix or replace, so I'm not going to fight with them.

The MT makes way too much noise. I can't believe they put it in a lexus. Maybe I will get used to it.

Yeah you learn to ignore the noise after a while.

If you want to be safe, use GL-5. It applies to all models.

I posted the cutoff VIN in the other thread.
