I think you should concern about the center speaker because it is my understanding that's where the center channel from 5.1 channel DVD will be routed to. (Unless the ML lets you play the DVD in only Stereo mode)

In other words, without the center speaker, you will only be listening to mostly background music..I don't think you'd want that

Oh if that's the case with the 5.1 problem then that sucks, I was assuming the movie could just be played through the other speakers, that it was just lacking a video signal. oops

Yes swapping the headunit with the ML is one possibility

If we swapped out the DVD CHanger only.. i think alot of people can be fooled if it is a complete ML System.

Personally, I'm working on a carputer project for that amount of money.
No it's not that simple

If you could get it for less than $940 you have come out on the winning side. According to the Lexus website, the ML system MSRP's at $940

I also have a navigation without Mark Levinson and I took the unit out the other day to do the nav hack and this is what the back of navigation unit looks like:

The blue connector at the top left side is not connected to anything by default (as it turns out that this is the Mark Levinson DVD player image connection) so out of curiosity I looked at the repair manual and here's what it says about the connector: (it's called J52 connector)

So anyone have any idea how to display my own image given this information?
You will need a cable like this one.

all you would need is the headunit.

The cable is very cheap. In fact, it is J52. It used to get DVD video signal from Radio Receiver. However, now you replace it with external video signal.
