Yes I think it will be on. It should be tolerable considering you will be saving alot of money for the module.

Hey since you seem to know quite a bit about all this stuff.. I know this guy who thinks he's an audio guru so to speak, he has ML in his 250 and is thinking about ditching the headunit for aftermarket so he can tune it to his specific liking. I asked him if he did this would he sell it to me, he said yes. I was immediately excited and chose to be quiet about all the questions I had such as dude you know that your gonna have a hard time incorporating all the A/C controls etc etc. So if he makes this stupid mistake, and I purchase the head can I just swap them out?

funny how you discover something and then it gets taken aways that soon.

anyways... my next project is to make the video screen work and use the j52 for the video input.

there has got to be a trigger of some kind that we can simulate and make the dvd screen work.

What was taken away man? It's awesome you came up with this regardless of some lil message on the bottom of the screen. Like I said I'm still down to get you to help me unless the above scenario plays out.. But yea that J52 connector wire seems like it would be so much easier, I don't even know where we can purchase the J52 connector. Looking at those pictures earlier in this thread I've always thought that cord looked like it was rigged together into the back of the J52. maybe we could make our own from the wiring diagram

Well I nned to get my hands on that j52 cable.
athough it will not work for our car...i can cut it up and change whatever i need.
funny how there is audio on that cable but the j52 does not have audio at all.

very simple to figure out.
looking at the wiring diagram for ml and non ml...
there are only a few differences.
one of these differences has to be the trigger to lauch the screen to dvd mode.
and the trigger has to come from the radio receiver unit and go to the screen.

there are only three wires to try so hopefully if i can get my hands on this connector i can figure out how to make the screen to work in video mode with only a switch.

Yea that what was always interesting to me, I mean really when you look at that cable previously posted it so looks like someone cut apart RCA's and inserted each end into the J52 then electric taped it and called it a cable.. I could be wrong but that's what the pictures look like. I've looked around for the actual J52 connector and cannot find one like in the picture

sepukku, there's a little more to the j52 connector input than just three wires, if you read back in this thread i was working with the j52 plug, i was able to get my hands on a cable, i an still researching on how to get this to work, this is the method i prefer instead of using the rear camera modd , it is not on the nav wiring diagram for the is250/350 which pins are the avc-lan communication signal for the j52 connector, but there is a avc-lan communication signal that talks to the nav monitor which tells the monitor that there is a dvd change installed, therefor unlocking that feature, this is what nav -tv has done they have tricked the monitor into thinking that is a factory dvd change installed, so when you hit the disc button twice it switches to what ever you have hook up to that video input of the j52 connector and displays on the screen, so now i just have to figure out how to communicate on the avc-lan communication, once this is done the rest is easy, feel free to place any input on this

i was mistaken..
there is actually a 4 wire difference between the ml and non ml.
according to the diagram that was posted earlier (em01463.pdf)

one of these has to be the trigger..
there is no other difference other than that.
unless the ml version has other wires that are not listed in the lexus diagram, which i doubt.

i am going to figure this out..and build something...but first i need a j52 connector...i think i can find one of these at a place i used to purchase connectors when i used to reprogram ecu's for imports.
we used them to install haltech's and hks vpc's when the factory harness took a dump.

by the way... if you all would like... i can post instructions on how to complete the backup camera input if you want..
just let me know...and if i get enough responses then i will make a DIY thread.

Please do make a DIY. I am sure it will definitely become a sticky.

Can you post the page number of the wires and the specific wires that differ between the ML and non-ML?

Thank you

Good work btw.

Page 542
connector t1 pin#1 is what is labeled 'DVD'
this goes from the amp to the receiver assembly
and ends up on s1 pin#1.

Page 544
then you have the j62 connector on the receiver assembly.
pin# 1, pin#2, pin#3 labeled 'SLD', 'GND', and 'NTSC' respectively.

these three wires goes to the infamous j52 connectors on
pin#1, pin#4, pin#5

Alright guys finally got my laptop to output composite video.
Here is the last video of everything working...and how to do it.

http://home.comcast.net/~spdmodz/roadtest-video.avi
(4megs)
so now there are two ways to get video.
pay for a nav-tv and listen to audio through rf..

or use my method and live with the "check surrounding area" on the bottom of the screen....
most importantly my method is almost free..
probably costed me about 20 bucks for wires, switches and the like.

hopefully when i am done...there will be third method..

Kensteele....you have my permission to put this on youtube if you want!!!

Yes this is right on the j52 connector pin 1 is for ntsc dvd video image signal,
pin 4 is signal ground, pin #5 is shielded body ground, but what you dont see is pin #3 and Pin #6 which is needed for avc-lan communication, i already tried hooking up just 1,4 and 5 to plug j52 to a dvd player but the display dosent know anything is there, it must first talk to the nav and tells it "hey i am playing a picture if someone presses the disc button allow my signal to show up on the screen, then the nav displays that picture , to be able to allow you to switch to that video input, you have communicated with the navi by this data bus,
