I wonder if you can just take ur car to toyota instead and have them program and mount ur tires for you...it'll be way cheaper there than lexus

Ripoff is an understatement unless they misunderstood your request and included the cost of some other service. Perhaps you should try talking to another service writer and get another estimate.

I bet I could pay for one of the devices pretty quickly by just showing up to meets and charging $10 to change anything you want. The procedures are dead simple, and the tester costs about $6k + software maintenance.

BTW, there are a LOT more preference items than are listed on the page I got with the car for personalisation. There are about 20 just for the AFS alone.

Default tire pressure sensors

Lobuxracer:
These sensors sound like a pain. maybe I don't understand the maintenance involved here? If I just change tires and keep the same wheels do we have to mess with anything on the sensors?

You have to buy new sensors for new wheels?

How are these sensors attached to the wheels?

you have a pic of the sensors?
If these things become a hassle, I'll just put all four of the damn things in the spare or something. They won't be ripping me off for $120 for programming.
thanks

No, the only time you have to mess with the sensors is when they fail or if you want to have a second set of wheels. If you just change the rubber, there's nothing to do with them except resetting the initial pressure.

Was going to get some winter tires and rims mounted with sensors from TireRack, but it's apparently not that simple? Do I have to have the dealer set them as the 2nd set of rims? And THAT'S what's costing 120 bucks?

So if you get a brand new set of aftermarket wheels, you need to have tire pressure sensors also?

Does anybody know if the 2IS allows two different TPM settings for two seperate sets of wheels with sensors ie (winter wheels and tires W/sensors and stock)?
Or will I have to have do a re-program every time I switch from summer/winter setup on the car and vice verca?

There is a place for a 2nd setting. So if I'm correct you won't have to have them reprogrammed every time.

Only if you don't want to remove your existing sensors from the OEM wheels. It's a simple process to remove and install them. I would just put the original sensors in the new wheel (assuming they are compatible - some are not).
