Default finally!!!!

some cars with sex appeal, and not just from toyota, for a while i was not at all interested in the car market, because everything was boring(TO ME)....

by the way congrats to all the new IS owners

the new IS250/350 are very appealing but i pride myself on not being a impulse buyer, mainly because i wanted to know if the car would fit me and my personality.

i've been trying to read up on the new 2.5 and 3.5 engines to see if they are capable of dishing out half of what good ole 2j's were able to(reapeatably) but then i saw the compression numbers, are you new IS guys interested in making more power or are the days of 600-800hp sc's, gs's ,ls's and Is's over

JUST AND IDEA PLEASE DONT FLAME ME

did anyone think about putting the old 2j in there new IS? or putting low compression pistons in a 3.5 and aiming for 500-600hp for starters, if the block and everythinh else can take it a 3.5 turbo doesn't sound bad. but if all else fails there is still a 2j in the family if it will fit.

am i thinking to far ahead or do you think about the same thing

To be honest... Getting this car, in a large sense I just want a comfy car that gets me from A to B, and I'm sure a lot of other members here agree to that as well.

i'm just curious as to engine options in the future....

i realise that no one wants to hack there brand new IS, and i'm not encouraging it but sooner or later that is the road i think most will take.

does anyone have any dirt on the 3.5 engine(iron or aluminium) is it mod friendly, heard of any of them breaking under stress, stuff like that.

They're paying attention to their market. Most people that can afford this car don't want manual transmissions. This board is obviously not representative, because I'd say many here are younger and had help buying the car. Just my impression, based on the discussion of some of the ricey visual mods that people are interested in on this car.

Personally, I need to have the ability to keep an eye on my son, take calls, write notes, and do a number of other things I shouldn't be doing while driving. The last thing I need to deal with during my commute is shifting gears manually.

.ie. bore spacing/ engine block material/ head material/ bore size, stroke lenght/ tranny strenght/ other compatable trannies(if available)/weight/ ect.

The Toyota GR engine series actually started life as a 4 liter engine (the 1GR-FE) in the 2003 4Runner. Other versions of this engine: the 2GR-FE, the 3.5 liter motor in the Avalon, ES350 and new Camry and its direct injection cousin the 2GR-FSE in the IS350. The 3GR-FE, a 3 liter version in the IS300 sold in the middle east and asia-pacific regions, and the direct injected 3GR-FSE in last years GS300. The 4GR-FSE, a 2.5 liter direct injected version in the IS250.

so guessing from the engine code does this mean that the 3.5 is actually a debored 4.0 from the tacoma, and the same with the 2.5 and 3.5.

and is the 1gr-fe and the 2gr-fse the same engine except for the .5L and the (FSE) that means direct injection, or did i get it wrong

so if all the bores the same and they just change the stroke then i'm assuming the block is the same for all the engines(2.5/3.5/4.0)

The 3.5 and 4 liter motors both have the same 94mm bore, but the 2.5 is de-bored to 83mm.
