Default Local Infiniti dealer is nucking futs

Went to a G35 unvieling at a local dealer here in OKC. Nice car and has more room. Asked what he would give me for my '07 IS 350 w/all the goodies on it, and he called me back today with 33k on value WTF!! I told him that he was crazy and I did not want the G35 any way. Made appreciate my IS more, especially since it's paid for.

If they offered more for the IS, were you really considering trading in for the G?

Unless I would have been serious I wouldn't even have asked them what they could give me on my IS. If it was just a game ('I did not want the G35 anyway') it was just a useless exercise, imo. You really didn't expect him to come back and tell you they'd give you close to what you paid, did you? No matter what I'm looking at I never get into any sort of price negotiations if I have no intention of buying. Just wastes my time and the salespersons time. Of couse many people think it is a great sport to negotiate a good price and then walk away and say "I'll think about it", never intending to purchase anyway.

OUCH, I was offered 31K trade in- on my 06 Base IS350.... this was 2 months ago, and my car had 13.5K miles.

Why would you want to trade an 07 in? Didnt they just come out 2 months ago?

That is the way all dealers are.

Down here, vehicles lose 10 to 25% once you sign the contract. One of the few things I don't like about Mexico.

I think he was angry because you couldn't spell Infiniti.

Any dealer will always give you a low figure on the trade in. Your job is to negotiate the price of the new car down, then negotiate the price of the trade in up until you pay a price you are happy with. Nobody takes the first figure given on the trade in. That is crazy, You know it is going to be low.

Reality sucks, the car dropped 30% in a year. I had the same reality check when I checked kbb.com for the '06 model. I stated this in a thread earlier, and most agreed this is the Lexus secret; they don't hold their value.

Gassman,

That was an over over the phone and not a bad one at all. If you were there in person he'd have given you a little more.

You are in for a shock if you try getting a price over the phone in trading your IS for an ES or another new Lexus. You'll end up respecting that G35 dealer a whole lot more.

dealer trade in = rape, i kept my prelude after i bought my IS, sold it two days ago for 11.5k to a person that wanted a modded prelude, far better situation for me and my previous car than bending over and probably getting 6-7k trade in at a dealer. Carmax actually offers you more money most of the time, but dont know what tax is on your 33k, trade in takes off the sales tax of the trade amount you wouldve had to pay normally

I see I spelled Infiniti wrong, I was serious about trading even thought I like my IS better. The GS has more room in the front and back. I am glad the dealer did not offer me a better deal because I would have regreted giving up my IS. It's a better car IMHO.

Gassman,

That doesn't strike me as such a lowball offer. Your 350 stickers for about $40k and can be bought in much of the country for roughly $38k. As a used car, he needs to sell it cheap enough to make it worthwhile for his customer vs. buying the car new. If he retails it for $35k, he is only saving someone $3k, and before any expenses he is making only $2k.

These numbers can clearly be wiggled in any direction but I doubt you'll get more than that anywhere.

No offense intended, just playing devil's advocate.

He said his '07 IS350 has all the goodies on it. How in the world can a fully loaded '07 sticker for about $40K? My loaded '06 tipped the scales at almost $48,000. Maybe I should have waited for the less expensive '07's.
