Don't hold your breath for that tsb... My service tech tells me that the pad shifting noise has plagued them since the 1IS. All they can do is grease it up, but eventually, the sound will come back.

SAVE your transmission! Use your Parking Brake to hold the car! Brakes are design to stop/hold the car.

The clunk I hear is from N to D in the morning.

are you saying that because you've had a transmission go out on you because you didn't parking brake it first or maybe you know somebody who's transmission broke because they used it to keep their car parked....lol.

sorry, just trying to figure out if it's a dumb ritual or are there any facts.

btw, it's called putting your car in Park and using the emergency hand brake...seems to me when you park your car, you use it that way.

No clunk at 60k miles.

Standard parking procedure:

1. Stop car in D
2. Hold brake pedal
3. Shift to P
4. Press parking brake
5. Release brake pedal
5. Kill engine
6. Exit.

My process park, shift to neutral, apply parking break, shift to park, release brake, turn off. No clunk that I have noticed.
