Absolutely do not Tap into the fuse box unless you know what you are doing.
BTW, For the people who tapped into the fuse box.... Do you know what fuse you have tapped for the (+)?
LOL.
If you do not even know... I urge you to remove it before any problems occur.

That's why it is set in a fuse, if the circuit is shorted then the fuse will blow and that's about it. Nothing terrible will happen wiring this way.

Does the wire look secure in there?
Anyway the fuse is suppose to interupt the circuit if there is a short.
Do you know which end is FROM the Battery and TO the Accessory?
Lets say you got the end FROM the Battery... What happens if there is a problem? No fuse buddy! You will damage your Car!
Lets say you got the end TO the Accessory... OK... You Just lucked out! Congrats!

Mine was hard wired buy a pro, with the V1 set up that came in the box. I put it on the right side of the rear view mirror since I did not like the way it obstructed my view with it on the left. If I'm stopped at a light, I have to lean forward to see the traffic light as it is. I like how the V1 is pretty hidden in this spot and blends in with the huge rain sensor for the wipers.

Well my v1 finally got here today. I hardwired it to the rear view mirrior power, using the hardwire kit that comes with the V1. I decided to use it instead of simply the cable since it has a fuse between the mirrior and the V1 just for the extra security. I have a bunch of work to do tonight but ill post pics if i have the time tomorrow, thanks for everyones advice. By the way the entire install only took me about 20 mins, soldering and all.

Here are some pics, as i said earlier the install only took about 20 minutes. It was realtively simple, and the only difficult parts are stripping/soldering the wires, and getting the little black wire cover to clip back onto the mirrior.
I got it off of valentineone.com, and it cost me $400 + shipping which was 5 dollars for ground.

I would not be able to hard wire my escort myself but I am curious where I would go to get this done. I have a buddy that puts in all the electronics in police cars and fire trucks (lights, sirens, etc..) and he said he thinks he would be able to do and would do it for free, but I just do not want something to happen and then be in a weird situation since he is a friend and all. I asked BestBuy about it (where I bought mine) and they said they could do it for $30 but I am concerned about whether they would do a good job or not. Then lexus told me that they would do it for $100 or so, but I don't feel that getting my radar detector hardwired is worth $100. Any suggestions? Other options?

Hardwiring to the fuse box is actually ideal IMO if done properly. Wiring it anywhere else will add load to the tapped circuit, which will increase the chances of blown fuses.
To do it properly just requires a fuse block tap that relocates the original fuse while also adding another fuse for the added circuit.
BTW, I mount mine at the far upper right corner of the windshield. Anywhere else looks like hell IMO.

Tap the Rear View Mirror Lead? Is it Switched or Constant?
If it is switched, I would say YES.
If it is constant, then your device will be on ALL THE TIME.
So please... Tap a switched (+) signal properly... Do not use those Fuse Box Tap ghetto rigged half *** job technique.
