For those of you with a valentine one, are u using it through your ciggarette lighter or have it hardwired? Also post where on ur windshield u mounted it; and if its hardwired what powersource u tapped into ( ex. sunroof, mirror, fusebox).

I know this question may start a controversy and kinda jack your thread. But is the valentine better or about the same as the Escort 8500 in primarily city driving?

Cigarette. As I use it in other cars and would not like to F with hardwiring. It is located in the center of the windshield, about 4 inches bellow the mirror. Have no problems and allows me to remove the detector to store quickly when I park.

Default V1 INstall

Mounted just below rear view. Run wire up the channel for the rear view to head liner then along right side down to fuse box under Glove compartment tied into fusebox. Cig lighter fuse. very easy install. Wiring totally out of sight.

Just remove the rear view mirror and tap in the wires, nice and clean. Someone here has the DYI with pics!

i think it has to do with the fact that you can't really secure the wires completely. I may be wrong though.

1. You cannot secure it properly.
2. You are putting your car's electrical system at risk.
3. Increase chance of shortage.

Just run a (+) line from your CIG Lighter. It is the ORANGE color wire. Use T Taps and get the 12V there.

If you were to bring your car to any qualified technician, they would call a fuse box tap a mickey mouse job.

Tap the Rear View Mirror Lead? Is it Switched or Constant?

If it is switched, I would say YES.

If it is constant, then your device will be on ALL THE TIME.

So please... Tap a switched (+) signal properly... Do not use those Fuse Box Tap ghetto rigged half *** job technique.
