How much did you pay for your Car tag?

Was it for one year, or two year?

I am curious about different states, and basically want to know just how bad I got ripped on my tag. Heh.

Short answer is Kansas is one year at time. It's about $500 but that includes property tax. Vehicles are classified by value and model year.

A lot of states you are entitled to a [partial] refund if you move.

It's something like $36 in VA, $12 to transfer. There is personal property tax, but the state gets you later for that....

About 600.00 a year in Arizona. We still have another tax for everything you can think of! They tax the hell out of us. We are a big state with only 4 million people so they have to tax us twice as much to maintain it. It sucks.

Here in MD it's $125 for 2 years. Which I think is pretty cheap comsidering how expensive housing is here and considering it's the 4th richest state. I don't remember what it was in Louisiana??

I really want to cry..

I paid $711 for my tag for ONE year.

Next year the tag is supposed to drop by 25%. Pretty insane. I am jealous.

I paid $322 for 1 year. In CA, title & license is based upon purchase price (car value), and will decrease each subsequent year you own the car. But keep in mind we pay a higher sales tax (8.25% for me) and we don't get sales tax relief on trade-ins . . .

That's about right. If you're in Cali expect to pay about 10% of the total car value for tax, license, & registration fees at the time of purchase. That is a HUGE markup to the out the door price.

Property tax in AZ in about a 25% of what people in east coast pay, that is why there tag are so cheap. Also, most of east coast have tons of tolls.

Does that include some sort of property tax? As I said, in VA tags are like $36 a year, but we still have property tax. Comes in October -- 4.5% of vehicle blue book at the beginning of the year. They started phasing it out a few years ago, but never quite made it. Their car tax relief varies -- not sure what their formula is though -- for my 2004 car I get a 35% discount, bug for my 1998 car I get a 66% discount. The fact is they will never phase it out -- easy rip off of the constituents. Any time someone even talks about it, they cut vital services, then say "see, if we had that car tax we could fund the ambulances...". F'ing politicians...

It's cheap in TX. Sales tax is 6.25%, Registration is ~$70/year. A personalized plate is $40/year extra.

The first time you register a vehicle there is a one time appl. fee of $33.

AND NO STATE INCOME TAX OR SILLY PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX.

You should come to KS. The taxes are not especially high here but they aren't low either. If you comes to Johnson County, you will see the difference taxes [are supposed to] make. No one likes to pay taxes but....I grew up in San Antonio. Spent 17 years there. Got a pretty good education but after moving to Minnesota and then to Kansas, you can easily tell a few things.

Edit: For example, I can't remember the last time I ran in a pothole.
