Where did you get the 18% number? I've been all through the documentation, and never seen this number anywhere. Source?

I don't remember exactly but I think that you can't set the threshold. Once the pressure goes below a certain pressure the low tire pressure light will go on and it will show you for example it will say F/L tire has a 22psi and to check that tire. The thing I liked the most about those sensors is that lets say you have a little less pressure in one tire than the other but it's not low enough for the TPMS light to go on, on the vette you can check everytime you get in the car. This way you have the same pressure on all tires at all times and therefore burn less gas and your car doesn't pull to the side of the road. I'm not saying that one car is better than the other but it's nice and easier when the car tells you which tire has low pressure instead of checking all the tires (especially if you don't have a psi guage with you). I had a few cars with TPMS and most of them tell you which tire has a low pressure. It doesn't bother me that much but when my light went on 2 days ago I chacked 3 tires before I got to the one that had low pressure and that's why I got mad. I would rather have a light saying which tire has low pressure instead of a light telling me that I don't have my seatbelt on.

I understand the TPMS is a problem, but IMO its not that big of an issue. As long as the tires are filled up every once in a while you don't have to worry. So far my light has not come on and I have had the car for a couple months.
Also, you can't compare a C6 vette to an IS. Totally different classes. The C6 fit and finish interior wise is much lower than the IS. The quality of parts and workmanship (ie roof flying off while driving) cannot compare. I am not saying lexus is perfect but it is considerably better in terms of luxury and quality to the C6. Don't get me wrong, I would love to own a C6 ZO6 for the pure performance to $ aspect, but I won't be buying it with luxury in mind.

I've had variances of 5+ psi from the door sill recommendations and the light has never come on for me. It's also important to note that the warning is triggered by a value computed by tire pressure and internal tire temperature as measured by the sensor. So if you live in an area that gets big temperature swings (like we have lately here in Dallas) that would also be a factor in triggering an alert.

Interesting discussion - side note - there is a data active list for the pressure sensor system. It includes the actual pressure data and temperature data from the sensor. Pressure up to:
TIREPRESS1 is for one tire, there are four signals, TIREPRESS1 through 4 are on the Data Active list. The data are actual tire pressure.
Also -
Same deal for this - TIRE TEMP 1 through 4.
Finally -
Same as above. 1 through 4 available.
So the data are available. Lexus just chooses not to show it to us.
TIREPRESS1 ID1 tire inflation pressure/min.: 0 kPa (0 kgf*cm2, 0 psi), max.: 637.5 kPa (6.48 kgf*cm2,92.2 psi)
Also -
TIRE TEMP1 ID1 temperature in tire/min.: -40°C (-40°F), max.: 215°C (419°F)
Finally -
INIT THRESHOLD1 ID1 initial threshold of low-pressure/min.: 0 kPa (0 kgf*cm2, 0 psi), max.: 637.5 kpa (6.48 kgf*cm2, 92.2 psi)
So the data are available. Lexus just chooses not to show it to us.

I know that the cars are of a different class but they're similarly priced and it's made by Chevy. The finish on the new C6 is very good, no gaps, rattles and nicer materials than the old C5. As far as the roof, there is no way that the roof will fly off unless you don't lock it properly. People have taken these cars to speeds over 200mph and no one ever lost their roof. I've also seen pictures of corvettes after big accidents and roofs are still one the car.
