Thumbs down How much deposit for 2007 IS350?

I just returned from Lexus of Bellevue dealership (WA) with a news that they require $5,000 (yes, five thousands) deposit if I want to place special order on 2007 IS350. They had only three IS350s on the lot and few more in incoming shipments, so buying from the lot was not an option.

This is the largest deposit sum I've ever heard of. Have anyone dealt with these guys before? Should I stay away from this dealership?

How about Tacoma, I was looking up there before I ended up buying from Kendall Lexus of Eugene. $5K is a lot for a deposit. Be sure it is refundable if the cars come in and it doesn't meet your specs. What options are you looking for?

i bought my car from lexus of bellevue and they're ********* hhahah... however a lexus dealership required me to put down a 10K deposit which is RIDICULOUS!... i think 5K is a hell of a lot of money... and they're basically telling you they dont want ur business because usually ALL deposits are refundable regardless of what they say... maybe try lexus of seattle? who im not too fond of either, but yes... hahaha!

also what exactly are you looking for on ur IS?

Do you get your deposit back?!?! OR. Does the dealer keep it if you buy the car, once it arrives.

Normally, for lot of other stuff, if you give deposit than they will give it back. But, do you get it back for buying Lexus?!?!

Is it a real deposit, or a hold? As in, you write them a check they don't cash, or they're going to take your money today for car arriving in a few months?

If it's a hold check, who cares? If they're taking your money today and applying it to the deal, I would look elsewhere.

BTW, putting down $5k isn't a bad idea, it helps keep you from getting upside down right away. JMHO.

check your state law. unless you agree with the dealership that the deposit is non-refundable or you custom order a car that cannot be sold otherwise, the deposit is probably refundable. I'm assuming you think it is non-refundable because of the former?

i would try to use a credit card for a deposit if you can. you have more resource if things get ugly. $5k in not a lot unless you don't intend to put that much down in the first place.

When I put a hold on my 2006 IS350, they only required $500 credit card deposit.

usually it SHOULD be $500 but in extreme cases where you special order a car with special options that normally wouldnt go on the car, dealerships like to take special precautions that u WILL buy the car. For example i tried to order a Manual IS at Lexus of Seattle and they wanted me to put a deposit of $10,000 to ensure that they will not be stuck trying to sell a car that was made especially for me which might be hard for them to sell to anyone otherwise. it's stupid but basically unless you're trying to put a down payment of more than $5000 then it's not worth it.

you are absolutely correct. that's not the way lexus operates, a special order car, no matter the features, is NOT made especially for you. $10k is insane.

be sure you never put a non-refundable deposit on a car unless 1) you are absolutely sure you want the car or 2) the car is customized for you, not built or specially-equipped.

In CA, you're only required to put down $1K.

Even Lexus of Portland only wanted $1000 (fully refundable) deposit for a car on allocation. I could also have special ordered for the same $1000. They will not have trouble selling any Lexus, unless maybe it's bare bones stock. They have a hard time keeping them on the lot! I ended up buying 4 days later and he never even got around to charging my card. All that $5K - $10K is B*ll*****. Go somewhere else!

By the way... are you still reading your post?
