I just got a new IS 350 yesterday and the few times I have turned off the car I have smelled oil. I figured since its new there might be some under the engine and it would go away. At what point should the smell concern me?

Probably that stuff they put that smells funky is what you're smelling..I forgot what it's called. As long as you don't see oil spots where you parked or blue exhaust fumes, you should be ok...

They still use cosmoline? I thought that was put on the exterior of the car (i.e. - On the paint) And I didn't think they still used that crap anymore... But no reason it should smell...

Why would they put it on the brakes?

No, cosmoline is used to prevent unpainted metal from rusting and corroding during shipment. The smell comes from it burning off of various underbody exhaust and engine parts.

So all manufacturers still use it? Well, either way, I am skeptical that the OPs issue is cosmoline... I've owned a ton of new cars and none of them smelled like burning oil for the first 500 miles...

3000k is 3 million miles. You must do a lot of driving!
There is a TSB relating to that sulfur smell. Link here: http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Lexus/115...7-06/1706.html
The smell being discussed in this thread is different. It is a burning odor, and it goes away after about 500 miles.
