For the record, I take the same stance as you on those issues: Lexus can't deny a warranty claim solely because the owner used an aftermarket part. But they can deny coverage if they believe an aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure.

But the act says nothing about the manufacturer having to "prove" anything to the customer. The specifics about how warranty claims are administered, including the process by which claims are approved or denied, is spelled out in the warranty documents themselves, which are the official contract between the owner and the manufacturer.

If an owner feels that a warranty denial violates the tie-in sales prohibition of M.M., he/she would need to seek redress in a court of law, where a judge would interpret both the applicable laws and the warranty documents in establishing burden of proof.
