Default What Happens If I Put on Bigger Rims?

This may be a very dumb question, but What happens when if I put on 19' or 20' rims without lowering the car? Will it close the wheel/fender gaps a bit? Must I lower to achieve this?

Yeah you'll need to lower for sure.

It will not close the wheel/fender gap because once you put on bigger rims you should put on lower tires, which evens out at the end. Like others posted, you have to lower the car to achieve this.

Mine is running with stock suspension on 20"...It looks ok IMO...but it raise the car up a little. I'd like to lower it, but I can't. Look at the pics and see if you like it.

What y'all are forgetting is that the majority (if not all) of the people putting on 20"s are going with tires that are too big (to avoid destroying their wheels if they run over a pothole.)

IIRC, I know someone is running 235/35/20's in the front, which are about 1.4" bigger in diameter. This would have the effect of reducing the gap about .7", which would definitely be noticeable.

However, I would agree that lowering the ride v. getting wheels and tires that are too large is definitely the way to go for many reasons.

when upgrading to bigger wheels...it is generally a rule of thumb to lower with springs or coilovers. That way it doesnt look like your car is tippy toeing and rolling around corners.

I saw an SC300 on 22's in the Bay Area the other day. It looked unbelievably bad.
