Did the passenger in the IS350 have a lap dog? I saw this furry thing looking out the window. That video was dumb, at what point were they racing? And why were the windows down? and Why was that guy making so many gestures with his hands? I feel dumb after watching that

Correct me if I'm wrong...
I realize the IS doesn't have perfect 50/50 weight ration but it is pretty close if I recall correctly......
I imagine the G should be the same?

The weight distr of the IS350 is 53/47. The G35 should be about the same.
We don't need no stinkin' amateur videos, C&D already did a sports sedan comparo last year (Aug mag I think) - the IS350 was the clear acceleration king, even tho C&D still ranked the Bmw 1st overall (what a surprise) . . .

To note, 50/50 weight distribution is ridiculously overhyped. If you're good enough of a driver to tell the difference between 50/50 and 40/60, my hat's off to you, you should quit your day job. Don't get me wrong, nobody wants to have an excessive amount of weight over the front wheels, especially in a rear-drive car, but telling me your car is better-balanced than mine isn't only asinine, it's a matter of preference and completely subjective.
For the rest of us common folk, unless you need to shave tenths of seconds off your lap times, we'd be better off balancing cross-weights, getting better tires/springs/etc., and going to driving school.
Rant over. Hilarious video!

I would like to hope you weren't directing that at me. Get a little carried away did we? :P

Oh, not at all...I'm sorry you got that impression. I assumed there were people on the G35 website railing our cars since they weren't perfect 50/50 or whatever. Didn't actually read through it. I've already been bashed by a BMW guy at a stoplight for it...

I know you guys think the IS should have won but anything can happen. I raced a mini cooper last night on the highway and I got my *** handed back to me. I was in sport mode when we started but I got lazy and threw it in D mode and I guess the the tranny got stuck in 6th gear or something. The mini passed me and I was behind him the whole time. I bet the cooper's owner was excited about beating an IS350 hehehe.

Now if you're talking a 53/47 v. 50/50, then I'd agree with you a lot more.

That was not even a race. It was a few morons with a camera running on the "freeway". The G35 is not a slow car and the IS350 is not slow in any respect.
G35 07 6MT Times
0-60 in 5.3 secs, 1/4 mi = 13.8 @ 102.7 "Motor Trend" - 6 speed
1/4 Mile: 14.2 seconds @ 101 mph "Motor Week"
Here is a stock IS350 over at dragtimes for an example...

Here is a run done on an 06 IS350 at inside line...

Bottom line both are fast cars and most road races can end with the better driver in first place if the cars are almost equal. In my opinion a 2007 G35 with an automatic transmission is no match for the IS350. The manual may be close but I still think that an IS350 will be able to take out the G35 if you run from a stop with the traction control turned off.
One of my friends is looking for a sports sedan. He took a test rive in the C350 Benz, 530i, 330i, G35 (07) and my IS350. He told me that , in his opinion, no other car that he drove had the pull of the IS350. The quality on the G35 was good but the IS350 was on par with the Benz if not better and quite a bit better than the G35.
For any owners of an O7 G35 6MT that read this forum (I am sure it will be cross posted to the G35 forums) I would be happy to run a drag at a track with you at any time with a 1/4 tank of gas and all of the regular driving weight in the car. I would even place my stock air intake back into the car in place of my JoeZ. I live in the Tampa florida area so pm me if you want to set this up.

I have to disagree. Most people will be able to tell the difference between a 60/40 FWD, 50/50 RWD, and a 45/55 mid-engined car if they take it above 6 or 7/10th. My g/f has a tsx, which I can differentiate very easily from my IS, which I can very easily differentiate from my bud's boxster (that turns in like a freakin' go cart.)
Now if you're talking a 53/47 v. 50/50, then I'd agree with you a lot more.

Between 60/40 and 50/50, absolutely agree. I guess I'm talking 50/50 to 40/60, with similarly-mounted drivetrains. For sure, engine position makes all the difference. I guess I'm basing my ranting on an argument that some Porsche owners made at a track day I was at last year. The new Boxster has something like a 45/55 weight distribution, as compared to my Elise's 35/65, and they therefore claimed that this made the Porsche a superior track car.
It therefore really irks me that (so I thought) some G35 owners were making the same point comparing their cars to ours. Apologies again to IS Mine, reading back, it really does look like I'm singling him out for an unwarranted flame.
