that wasn't a smart *** remark at all~ i dunno why you're so uptight about it. I was expecting something along the lines of, "your mom and dad is buying this car for you huh?"

I'm sorry... sorry you have no sense of humor. Salesmans comment was certainly not offensive. Dealers in HI likely get dozens of requestes for nav, how about their frustration.

i would have been taken aback also, but after he said just kidding and actually explained why..i would have thought it was funny..i think that is bc a majority of us have made a joke and the jokeee did not find it funny..

He said because Lexus owners can read maps which I took as Lexus owners are more intelligent that BMW and infiniti owners. It was a joke life is too short!

Don't get me wrong, I didn't say the joke itself wasn't funny. My complaint is when he said it. If he said something like "But its more fun pulling out the map book to find places. Nah,nah just kidding." It would've been more ok. But at that moment I was calling in about the navigation. You shouldn't make a joke that has the potential of cutting down the buyer. As others have said, what if I had a BMW as my other car. I would've been more mad.

Smart-*** remarks don't belong in the sales process. I think we're seeing why...

"Smart-***", how do you come to that conclusion from the salesmans comment. If he would have said "are you to stupid to read a map" that would have been smart ***. There is no way you can imply that the comment was "smart-***".

No, that would have been an insulting comment. And I can say it's smart-assed because the prospective client took it as smart-assed. In sales, you don't cross these lines (or even go near them) for exactly this reason.

Honestly people. This is customer service. You don't say things that may insult the customer.

Thank you.
I think everybody here is buddy-buddy (family) and saying jokes like that to each other is fine. But when you're trying to sell your product to someone... well, that was closer to being smart-assed than a friendly joke from dealer to potential customer.

If that joke offended you, you might want to throw down a few beers and relax a little before you call the next dealer.

I still think you are too sensitive. If I drove a BMW and the guy said that, I will would have chuckled. Then I would have said something like, "Yeah, I have a BMW now and since I just learned to read maps, I'd figured I'd give the Lexus a try." Of course, I still find it pretty sad that Lexus can't have navigation in Hawaii...
