I know there are dozens of posts on this topic already. I've searched, and I've read as many as I could. But the issue that still troubles me is the antenna.
I know the recommended placement is on the trunk with a wire tucked into the trunk edge. This is deemed ugly / clunky by some but gets the best reception. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I know an alternate placement is on the rear shelf. This solves the potentially ugly trunk issue but sacrifices reception quality.
Are there any other options?
I know the 2007 IS comes with a shark fin, but I'm still not sure why. Is it just in case someone wants XM? Would it be possible to get a 2007 shark fin installed on a 2006 and use it as an XM antenna? Would a dealer do this?
Thanks for any input, and I apologize if this has been asked / answered.

Most people have it on the trunk, and some have done it on the rear shelf.
You can get the shark fin installed on an '06 but it will be very costly compared to the first two options. A dealer can do it for lots of $$$.
IMO, the rear shelf way does not compromise reception quality...
