The Mother of all 335i vs IS350 threads (please read 1st post in thread!)

BMW Marketing.... All I care about is the 1/4 mile times for each car. Rated output, etc, is meaningless to me in terms of who will win a stoplight race...

Thanks! That validates other information I've heard about the 335i putting out close to 350 than 300. I read the reason is they don't want to have such a small [published] gap in HP between it and the new M3, which will put 400+ hp.
PS, I would have gone for the BMW as well, but I too love the IS350. Great acceleration and great sound (ML audio)

Nope. For the time being, the 335i is represented by a spec sheet, a few magazines, and little else. Just as people did with the IS, quoting a spec sheet doesn't even begin to tell much about the driving experience, and how it behaves daily (look at the STI, EVO, G35/350Z, 335i and they all have roughly 300hp, but offer different experiences). My final sentence of the same paragraph explained what I was refering to; "I'd take a close look at how you plan on using the car, and what appeals to you more, then make a decision. Seeing as how he selected the luxury package on his current IS, there probably is more to the decision than driving dynamic, which is what BMW is known to market heavily on their 3 series.

BMW and Lexus are two fundamentally different cars. Test drive each and you should almost instantly know which you want.
Lexus = Japanese = higher reliability and more modern electronics
BMW = German = handing/performance
These cars feel very different when driven, I couldn't imagine ever being torn between a 3 series and an IS. They serve two very different markets IMHO.

I would have picked the IS350 over the 330 everytime until the new Inline Twin Turbo engine came out. Now its an easy choice for me... manual 335 sport package.

turbo???, not sure much more room, 10.1 compression, not condusive for upping the boost levels or a large turbo, must lower compression first, then you have the issue of fuel air ratios.
an eually equipped 335I is going to run 8-9k more than and IS

For those into HP - take the turbo from BMW will that keep up to IS350. Add a turbo to IS350 and who know what HP it gets.
$$ - BMW 55k IS350 44k use 11k to upgrade IS350. Will BMW still win?
You know how it is with all the bugs in a car for the first year. So BMW won't really be the second choose. (my options)
Could only say BMW has better handling but overall IS350 has it all besides the handling.

Lexus Champion
I wonder how many people actually get a fully loaded car in this segment?

Also, consider that since the IS350 has been out for a while there are significant discounts off MSRP. Since the new BMW has barely hit the street I'm sure you will be paying full price for a while.
