335 is a bit faster in the 0-60 ,the torque is much greater in the low end than the IS350 so it may "feel" significantly faster, its high end isnt that good. Just way too expensive, interior is terrible, not reliable enough for my taste

I would move to a different Bimmer other than the 3-Series before I trade in my IS350.

I would rather get the Z4M before the 335. Just my thing though...

If you want to go fast.. I think you should look at a true performance beast.

Especially with that price range you'll be upwards into the mid 50s.. might as well get a Vette! But on the other hand the 335i is a beautiful car.. if you got the funds... why not?

Just on power and performance, what are your thoughts on swapping the is350 for a 335i.
335i = 300hp 300ft.lbs. torque 0-60 = low to mid 5 sec depending on where you read it

IS350 = 306 hp 277ft.lbs. torque 0-60 = low to mid 5 sec range again

So where exactly is the big power difference here? BMW had to put turbos on their engine to get close to the same hp as the is350. Don't get me wrong the 335 is a sweet ride. But you are going to have more problems with any car that has a turbo charger especially as it ages and then factor in that BMW's aren't as reliable as Lexus to begin with. And the interior difference has already be covered.

turbo vs na?

It's too bad you pay an arm and a leg to get such ugly interior, otherwise a nice coupe.

The 335 is nice. But if you just want the POWER I think a swap is a big mistake. You can buy car with a lot of power that is $15-20K less than a BMW335 but I'm not sure you want to go that route.

It's pretty widely known that the BMW 300HP rating is conservative. Very conservative, according to some sources. Also, HP and torque numbers don't tell the full story without the RPM numbers attached to it. And of course performance doesn't just mean the drag strip. It also involves handling and braking.

But yes, 306 out of the IS is enough for anybody to accomplish what they need to in traffic and merging on the highway. Frankly the 204 from the 250 is fine also, assuming you're not fighting for the same lane as another car that's determined to get there first. So for me, the Lexus advantages outweight the marginal BMW performance. 330 real hp vs 306 doesn't matter as much to me as the likely difference in reliability and luxury.

Just cause it is a turbo doesn't mean he'll have more problems with it. There is no need to scare people off like that. Turbo cars are alot of fun! Besides the turbos from what I have read are made by Mitsubishi.. and they make some of the better ones on the market.

Hand over fist the 335i will have more mod goodies than the 350 simply because it is a turbo, and like another poster said BMW much like Chevy is very conservative when listing their power ratings. Head for head a manuel 335i will kill a 350 on the top end war. It all starts out even but eventually you'll watch the Bimmer tail lights in the distance.

If you want a car with more modding potential then yeah the 335i could be for you.. if you want more power? Well save your money and upgrade to a V-8.

I think the BMW is so much better in handling.

Yeah, in handling/performance, the Germans win, but in comfort and overall design, I think the japanese are holding it down very well.

Also, the performance figures on the 335i are underrated. it was released during the last months of the E46 (1999-2006 M3) so BMW didn't want to lessen it's model sports car... But yeah, mostly what everyone else has said, the 335i doesn't look like a $45,000 car when parked to other 3-series...but an IS350/IS250 really do stand out :-) and less costly!

p.s. gotta love the turbo-lag-free twin-turbo'ed 335i though :-D it's soooooooooo sweet! (this is from experience, few of my friends have both)

turbocharged german motors are either damn-near bulletproof or ticking time bombs. german automotive electronics are also finicky at best, especially for first-iteration models. it's a crapshoot...

HOWEVER, given that the motor and electronics hold up, the 335's raise the bar of the entry-level luxury sports sedan class up another notch.

i drive an 2is because i played it safe.

I'd go with the 335i in a heart beat. The coupe looks amazing. Performance is great. I have'nt seen the interior. If I had the funds I would do it!

Though I still love my IS350!

If you want a fast car with cheap interior may I suggest maybe waiting for the new Pontiac G8-

Its all ready been compared to the last gen M5 by several magazines-

almost 400hp, 6 speed, with Holden interior (much different then GM interior) all for around the low 30s- add in GMs million dollar rebates and there you go
100,000 mile warranty too stock-

Id go that route if I wanted speed with no luxury-

not to mention at this point, Id say GM V8 reliability> BMW reliability

Wow..she must be one good piece of you know what because I would never let any girl ever influence my decision when it comes to my car-

335+chip= no warranty=

you really want to be out of warranty on a first year model BMW with twin turbos- sounds like a recipe for bankruptcy to me
