you need as much torque as you can whereever it can, thats what horsepower is thats how its calcuated, car engines do not make horsepower they make torque. How do you think the M3 will be a monsterously faster car then the 335 despite it having less torque than the 335, because its torque curve is far superior and the torque magnitude is literally everywhere and it barely declines even to 8500 rpm, and as a result its horsepower is huge even with less torque

torque alone isnt everything, where in the powerband you are making that torque is. Im just very disappointed when a company who prides itself on engines with very flat N/A powerbands went this route with the 335. Yes its faster, but thats not the point. Even the E46 M3 with 265 ft lbs can still beat the 335 in the 1/4 despite a 40 torque disadvantage, why, because its making its torque where it matters, the midrange to high end, to get that quicker 1/4

The E46 M3 is also lighter and is making 30 more HP. Take that away and I'll bet that tenth or two of a second advantage it holds is gone as well.

That's it. Those are the facts. No debate. End of argument forever as far as BMW vs. Infinity vs. Lexus
Pretty true statements. I'll have to add the BMW adds a totally different driving experience than a Lexus. In a Lexus, you feel more isolated from the road, in the BMW you feel more connected to the road. Both cars are great, gf has an IS250 (that I drive a few times a week when we're out together) and I'm picking up my 335i next week. The BMW also offers "brand" appeal to those who care about owning a "BMW." This may be positive or negative depending on how you view it.

True and false. The tuning upgrades now are "piggyback" systems that are undetectable by BMW. In fact, you can remove one in about 15-20 minutes. Warranty would be concern with any car.

Default BMW 335i vs. IS350

Who here has driven both of these? What did you think when comparing the two?

I test drove both and came damn close to buying the 335i. Really what closed the deal was Lexus was much more willing to negotiate on the price. My sticker was 41,500 on my IS350 and I got it for 35,500. It was hard to buy the BMW after that. However, the 335i was a blast to drive and had a sick suspension setup. The engine sounds nice also. You get more for your money on the Lexus as well. Every single thing is an option on the BMW. To get even close to the same options would cost you about 7,500 more. Along with that the BMW doesn't have ventilated seats or a back up camera.

BTW, I got all my mods done and love the sound of the exhaust and intake working together. It is bad ***!

actually, I am nervous that nobody seems to know how to put the right wheels on without rubbing inside the wheel well. My shop seems to lack the right knowledge for this one.

Personally, I think the 335i is one hell of a sporty driving machine. It is a true sport sedan and drives like one. I can say it drives 5x better than my IS350. The only reason I bought the IS350 over the 335i was the interior/and I like the exterior of the IS more and I was able to get a better deal. Otherwise, I would be driving a 335i right now. The only complaint I have with the IS350 is the steering feels too lose and you don't hear the awesome engine note like the 335i. Both cars are very comparable and great cars!!!

I found that the 335i felt like it handled better but in reality it just felt more sporty. What sealed the deal was, I keep my cars for a long time and twin turbos on a BMW just made me nervous.

the way i saw it was if i wasnt satisfied with the IS I can always go aftermarket to improve its main flaws (some would say suspension but I think its fine). I cant say the same for a 335, what aftermarket can fix a 3s flaws (to me: interior design, build quality, reliability, warranty)

I just had more long run ownership possibilities with one car than the other, and thats the one I chose

I really like hitting the backroads with the windows down, but in the IS you cant. period. You cant hear the engine as speed picks up becuase all the wind buffeting makes me go deaf. I have noticed if I lean towards the stearing wheel I dont feel the wind buffeting, but its not very practical.

I picked my IS350 over BMW and MB for 1 reason: Factory Touch Screen Nav (DVD Video playback is a nice bonus too)

No one should be picking out a Lexus over a BMW because of price alone. Those that liked the BMW's dynamics better but bought an IS because of the price will most likely be disappointed in the long run. Price is a factor for sure, but if driving FUN is the driving factor for owning a car in this category the BMW walks all over the Lexus. It really is a matter of what is more important: Luxury or Driving Performance. Once that question is honestly answered the selection becomes obvious.
