The Mother of all 335i vs IS350 threads (please read 1st post in thread!)

On the contrary, lately it seems that in many ways BMW has become the Lexus wannabe. Sudden up in horsepower after the IS comes out, touting BMW ultimate maintainence to try and keep those scared away by high upkeep costs, etc.

why do people say the 335 i/ci is much faster than the IS 350?
I saw several people on this site that have been commenting on how fast the 335i was. They mentioned how the IS 350 does not feel as fast as the 335 (i/ci). Well, the 335i best 0-60 and 1/4 mi times were 4.8 and 13.4 respectively while the best time for the IS 350 was 4.9 and 13.5. This means the two cars should be very close up to a certain point since the 335 does kill the IS in 0-100 (12.7 vs 11.9).

I believe(not sure on this) that a bit under the 100 mph area, they changed gears and the bmw is in its max torque band (from 1300-5000 rpms-keep in mind its a 7000rpm redline)... but the lexus' max torque is in the higher rpms at 4800 rpms to redline...so it catches up around 100 mph...while the bmw slacks on torque after 5000rpms

I have driven a 335i up here (we don't had Lexus) and it definitely has big punch on the low end for vehicle of its type. I have noticed with Toyotas I have had a chance to drive down here, even my RX300, they are very much the high end power vehicles.

its all about the low end torque that makes driver feel the punch, although 335 torque drops after 5K rpm, the turbo picks up the slack so u feel the power from start to redline. My M3 is also designed as high end torque and power, so often time driving at low speed on local streets, peeps are passing me, but once i drop the hammer, the power from 4.5K to 8K rpm is pure madness

Just tell people it’s the same in a quarter and the 335 picks up a little bit after that. But in these 2 cars, it completely and utterly falls under "driver". If you are going up against a manual 335, statistics are going to be in your favor unless they get perfect shifts.
The track is a different thing. I would say the 335 would best an IS350 most of the time (higher lap times)
