The Mother of all 335i vs IS350 threads (please read 1st post in thread!)

Case in point:
1. Automobile Mag got 300 WHEEL horsepower using very conventional measures.
2. The 335i coupe is already putting down much better numbers. Wait til you see the lighter 335i sedan hit the street.

It is a fact that the 335 engine is making 20-30rwhp and 70-80rwtq more in peak than the IS350 engine. It is a fact that it is making more than 100rwtq at 2000-2500 rpm over the IS350. The dyno sheet shows 250rwtq (300lb-ft) at 1700 RPM and 300rwtq(350lb-ft) at 2100 RPM. It is a fact that the 4 door 335 is coming out and it will still be faster than the IS350. You dont have to be soo defensive. Its the cycle of life.... someone will always be faster than you.
Don't get the gripes on price. The IS350 is sometimes more expensive than the current 330i. Now that BMW ups the power ante, I think a premium is deserved for the much better handling/steering.
I love my IS350, but guys, come to terms with it: the 335i is shaping up to be the best performance package. I won't get defensive, I'll salute BMW for a great product.

FI car with an intercooler brings this to an entirely different comparison. It's simply another variable that the 335i will have compared to the NA IS350. If the SAE instruction is conservative, you'll see a lot of upside in the real world.

We'll have to see the slips once people start posting 1/4 times, but I think the IS and BMW will be fairly close. The BMW will just give you more room to get power out of the box since its already turbo'ed.

I almost see the 335 as a M light package. I dont like the looks but love what I have seen on paper.
For the price, that is up to you, clearly BMW will sell them from 45k to 55k (which I do think it kinda batty at 55k) and get people to buy them.
Just feel good to know BMW need twin turbos to beat the IS 0-60 in this segment. We all know the 330 and 335 are better handlers.

Just got the October 2006 Car&Driver magazine and the numbers look impressive.
0-60 in 4.9
1/4 in 13.6@105mph
Top Speed 144mph (gov limited)
Braking 70-0 in 160 ft
20-21 mpg city
29-30 mpg hwy
I think the car would be great and if I were go get one it would def have to have different wheels. Some BBS 19's would work well. Also would much prefer a 4 door.

If Lexus wants to get back at the 335 they will have to do three things:
1. Add a manual option.
2. Add an Off button for the VDIM and delete the active steering option.
3. Making more rear leg room space by using thinner front seats or moving the rear seats a little bit back if possible.

Adding to your list
4. Add a better suspension + stiffer bushings that keeps the car from wallowing so much
5. Along with the manual transmission, stop the damned rev hanging in between shifts, and allow the revs to drop more quickly. Also, make the spacing between gear ratios more consistent.
6. Better quality shift linkage
7. Stiffer seats with better lateral support

How much cheaper is IS350 btw? 4k-5k-6k?
:-).

When you take in account that 335i coupe with manual transmission is barely faster than IS350 AT Sedan, there is really not much chance for 335i Sedan being faster than IS350. Add some more weight and AT transmission and you will have to lose more than 0.2s in 0-60 and 0.1 in 1/4 mile.
Not to mention than BMW will be considerably more expensive. Lets not mention real world mpg with use of those turbos.

Is it just me or what but BMW makes the ugliest and plainest interior Ive ever seen. Come on now, its 2007 not 1907.I dont think Ill spend $40K+ for some cheapo guages that looks worst than my old 04 accord. The stereo/AC console, oh so so sad .
On the other hand, the exterior is pure hotness. I'd take the IS350 over the 335cpe anyday of the week, everything look so updated. Not to mention Lexus/toyota makes quality cars, quiet and smooth.

lol... problem with that is that you forgot to mention how 335i's torque starts to free fall from 4,000 rpm onwards.... while IS350 has straight torque curve from 1,900 to 6,000 rpm.

By the way the AT and manual have less than 10lbs difference in weight. The auto tranny doesn't weight much more than the Manual.
Anyways Im waiting for the 535 because i really need the extra space in the back.

Thats good news for the IS350. Im sure it will be alot faster through the slalom and skidpad without changing anything else in the suspension or tires. When i want to spend 40K+ on a car another 5-7K extra for a better car won't really matter. Maybe thats just me.
