The 335i is a world class car yes we all know that... but that doesnt make all 335i owners world class drivers so its not unexpected for one to lose once in awhile, right?
Nope, I'm not here to defend anyone or anything. I do however strongly disagree with the members on this board who believe that there is little correlation between good drivers and the performance of their vehicles.

I still love M3's to this day.

As much as I love our cars... BMW's have always been historically ahead in the performance department.

Don't get me wrong I love the M3 all the way back to the first generation with the inline-4 but there alot of M3 owners that think they are greater than god when it comes to any other car thats not a M3.

I would agree that most of us could easily identify an m3 with a turbo or supercharger by distinct sounds they make; Supercharger whine and turbo spool. Now either sound was present in both of the videos you saw. Hmmm

Anyway this is was happened and whether you choose to believe it or not thats up to you.

Hmmm, so if you need 450-500hp for those times, by your own admission and this "STOCK" M3 ran those times, deductive reasoning would say that you're under the impression that M3's are pushing 450-500hp stock?

Guys,

The thread topic is about an IS350 on a quarter mile track with a bonus video killing a 335i.

This thread has nothing to do with a random "stock" (and I'm making big air quotes you can't see with my hands) E46 M3 with DR. I think E46 M3's are great cars, but posting that video has nothing to do with this thread other than attempting to troll and stir up trouble. AAe46M3 if you want to talk more about drivers as part of the track equation or simply brag about someone other than you driving a fast quarter mile, please start a new thread in the Racing or Car Chat forums.

If you want to discuss my request, PM me rather than post in this thread. Back on topic please.

Combfilter, can you try somthing for me on your next pass?
when i had my TL i was able to shave .5 second off my 1/4 by shifting the trans manuel.
heres the deal. on the TL auto trans you can shift manually, however the 1-2 shift happens automatically you could only shift 2-3-4-5 the trans has an automatic gate that would still allow you to put it in first and keep it there till redline.
when i shifted this way running all the way to redline i cut .5 off my 1/4 times.
could you try to run a couple passes in S mode and try using the paddel shifters to make the shifts using the tach indicator turning red as a shift light? i would be really curious to see if that helps any.

I've been playing around with this for the last week, and I'm sure that there is some room for improvement by holding the lower gears longer, but I would be really surprised if it was anywhere close to .5 seconds.

When in full auto mode, the transmission shifts about 200 RPM early in 1st gear, and about 100 RPM early in 2nd and 3rd gear. I've tried getting closer to the rev limitter using the paddles, but it's REALLY tough due to the ~1 second lag.

hmm well they are totally different cars, and i agree the lex shifts a lot closer to redline than the TL did, with the TL you could easily milk the 1st gear at least another second past the shift point in auto mode.

im thinking if he can do a 13.2 sec pass there is a slight possibility he could make up that .2 sec difference if he could hold each gear just a bit longer.

Default 335i vs is350

I have read much in the past months about how much faster the 335 was than the is350. (even though the 0-60 time for the is350 is .1 faster than than the 335 sedan, coupe is .1 faster than is350.. SOURCE: motortrend) I just did a youtube search of 335i vs is350 and all 4 videos show the lex beating the bmw. (quite handily i might add!) SO, what is the deal, is the is350 the most underapreciate lux/sport sedan out there, maybe even by members of club lexus?
