Road&Track:1. IS 350 2. TL Type-S 3. G35 Sport (merged threads)

You should here the crying coming from the G35 sites about this: "...Suburban Housewife Review" "...R&T Smoking something" ect, ect. I'll admit I was surprised to see the TL place above the G35, but I have not driven the Type-S model so I cannot speak as to its attributes. Plus, is the IS350 really that fast 0-60 - WOW.
I think this article is sport-on.

Road and Track tested 0-60 in 6 sec and 1/4 mile in 14.5 in their October 2005 review. Yet the recent test shows significant faster time.

Based on this quote, I would take that to mean they did not do any adjustments for the heat of the day? C&D's 5.1 sec 0-60 was a corrected time due to 100+ deg temps in the desert, if I recall correctly.

At 3:00 into the vid, it shows a 350 doing a 4.54 sec 0-60. Of course, you can't see if it was done under load, or what, but it appears that they hit 3000 rpm before the speedometer ever moved. Might that damage a torque converter?

In the end Infiniti will sell tons of G35's if the car is good. Those that rely solely on what R&T and other rags say about it may be put off.
Just like the latest luxury comparison had the all new LS460 in dead last place. True, fair? Who knows?
In the end I'm convinced Infiniti still has a long way to go to get to the Lexus standard in overall fineness and consistentcy of product. They still look cheap and too generic for me when compared to Lexus, BMW, M-B. Have you ever noticed how often 'value' or 'bang for the buck' comes up when the G35 is discussed? Value is fine but true luxury products aren't sold on a perceived bargain basis. They are sold partly on performance but largely on 'image' they convey to the owner and the public. Infiniti's image has never been good in that regard. They are getting better, but they aren't there yet.

There isn't anyway in hell this car will do 4.9 0-60. It won't even do a low 5 second run. Whoever says it will is full of something, like drugs. you have to be brain dead to say it is that fast.

I am not sure at your sin city, but it's getting really cold these days here. So it might be slightly possible if someone from the back was pushing it.

Yeah, they are all boo hooing about it. Personally I don't like these sorts of comparisons because every reviewer comes in with biases, whether they believe it or not. And we really don't know what goes on behind the scenes among the magazines management, distributors, manufacturers, etc.

I owned a '05 G35 and gave it back under Lemon Law. Now of course the G is not that bad across-the-board - but the "bargain" factor is not a valid argument IMO; and like you said they still have a long way to go to catch BMW and Lexus.

The funny part about these comparisons is that folks forget there will always be something bigger, badder and faster around the corner. No sense getting worked up about it because things are never static.
