How detailed and hyperfocused are we gonna be?
Almost everything sold with multiple parts (from the smallest nut and bolt to the largest frame) is no longer 100% from one place/manufacturer.
It would be too expensive to manufacture any one single item without outsourcing various parts from other manufacturers...

Your friend is wrong about Subaru using 100% Japanese parts. They also source parts from the world market -- in fact in 2005 Subaru as a company sourced 26% of its parts from the US: http://levelfieldinstitute.org/domestic.htm

A little off topic here. But I was reading an Article on the Ford GT, and it stated that even that car isn't a TRUE american supercar. It mentioned, that as long as the transmission was Assembled (not 100% made) in the US along with some other minor thing, the car was considered US made.

Damn it...I was hoping my IS350 was built in Yugoslavia at the old Yugo plant-
Highest quality by far- kind of dissapointed now-
question- does it really matter where the car is built?
even is Suburu was 100% and the IS350 50%- would that make the Suby any better of a car?

Agree with most here. The IS is 100% assembled in Japan, as is about 90% of all Lexus vehicles, only exception is the RX350 - some are assembled in Canada. The major components are also produced in Japan; engine, transmission, differential, Nav units, etc. Now you can argue that some misc parts (ie bolts, washers, screws, etc) are outsourced from different countries, but it is universally known that Toyota/Lexus has very strict quality specifications for all its suppliers & vendors, so does it really matter if the wiper blades were made in Taiwan ??? FWIW, I know my '06 IS cannot be 100% Japanese since it's running on Dunlop tires & Castrol oil, which are still mfd in the good ol' USA . . .

I once again fail to see your logic. How is this racist/prejudicial? And to what extent?
We have purchased a car that is supposed to be Japanese built. I wanted to verify that the majority if not all of the parts in this car is what the VIN declares it to be... Japanese.
I searched for the information. Perhaps I didn't use the correct phrase when I googled! However! I am a part of a LEXUS FORUM. I would imagine some of the members here would know for a fact if it is or isn't 100% Japanese. I consider this being an excellent fact that an enthusiast should know about their own car.
It would be on the same platform. If I bought a BMW I would want to know that the majority if not all the parts on it were German.
Besides I didn't know some RXs were made in Canada! Interesting! ALSO! The link about Suby is great. Thanks!
