It's not being lazy. It's just that if you are carrying something heavy to your trunk, it would be more convenient if it would just be open for you. And like someone mentioned above, I first saw it on my cousins C class.

Where does it end? My wife's MB CLK also has memory seats that move back to let you in and out of the car and return to the memory setting. The headrests also have memory settings. The seatbelt shoulder harness is on an arm and it "hands" the belt to you. Like I said, "where does it end?"

Your point is well-taken. However, car manufacturers have to draw the line somewhere in terms of extra costs and weight. At 3500+ lbs, the 350 is already on the heavy side IMHO. In terms of costs, the trick push button start is very nice but there is no doubt that the engineering, controls, electronics added a little sumthin' sumthin' to the bottom line of the car. Now a neumatic trunk opener probably won't cost as much as the start button but it will add to the cost and to the beltline.

And your point is well taken as well. Seeing that this is a sports luxury vs. the luxury C class, I see why lexus decided not to have it

Yeah I agree the trunk does lack friendliness.
The springs seem pretty stiff as well.

Folding rear seat would be the number one request for me. Then, sun shades that extend would the the second. I love my IS and overall I couldn't be happier.

my last car, an acura cl-s, had the trunk that would pop wide open when you pressed the button. never ever did i accidently open up my trunk and never ever have i accidently pressed the button on the 2is trunk so for me, that's never an issue. but i didn't like the trunk to pop wide open. whenever it was windy (it gets windy in flat kansas) the trunk would snap open violently and since it opened at a high angle and the lift was strong, it wasn't so easy to close.

so i don't miss it, i like the 2is now. so maybe the solution is if you use the keyfob, press once will crack the trunk, press and hold will fly it open, and if you touch the trunk button on the trunk lid, it will only release as it does today. rather have it both way than have my trunk swing open everytime i need access.
